Hi all, one peek from Bonaire (Am I glad that my connection at home is much faster than it is here.... It takes ages to load the pages) Weather is fine over here, did make two dives again yesterday, at the house reef of divi's and my knee is holding on great. Later we go for a boat dive.... And we are trying to visit the reefcam tomorrow, so hopefully it is on line than... And I think we need to ask for permission. But we are gonna try

Have a nice day all. I do miss you all..... But already busy with the start of a trip report.... (in writing on a diary...)
|
By Jake Richter (Moderator - Post #5105) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 12:49 pm: |
Yep - the cable's been cut. Just heard from Eden Beach. I'll need to wander over there this afternoon and see if it's repairable, and if not, install the back-up cable we have on island... Arg.
|
By Diana van den Wollenberg (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #2580) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 12:54 pm: |
Uhoh... Jake... good luck and I hope it can be fixed!

Need to get ready for the dive... See you all later
|
By Jake Richter (Moderator - Post #5106) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 12:56 pm: |
Looks like the cut is clean - we're going to put the land portion of the cable in a PVC when I attempt to reattach it later this afternoon.

Oh, and Diana, have a good dive! And nope, you don't have to ask anyone for permission to dive the wreck!

By Dilly Dillbream (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #754) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 3:13 pm: |
Sooo....where did they get the new sand??? Seriously, I'm curious...
|
By Mary Mueller (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #3115) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 3:27 pm: |
Dilly - I have been wondering the same thing - one thing they boast about is that their beach is natural - not man made - sure looks like a lo to man making to me right now!!!LOL!! Though you have to cut them some slack since a hurricane did do some damage to the beach!!!
|
By Kathy Hall (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #628) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 3:45 pm: |
I think they ordered some AL red clay. ;) Maybe it's just a tad wet.
|
By Eric M. Dagley (New BonaireTalk Poster - Post #1) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 3:47 pm: |
Does anyone on Bonaire know the extent of the damage to the Divi Flamingo hotel? They never replied to my e-mail. This will be our first trip to Bonaire and am wondering if the hotel is still there. All I saw on the messages was that the Divi got hit again and the boat dock was destroyed.

By Mary Mueller (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #3117) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 3:49 pm: |
Jake - thanks for working on fixing the line for us!!! We really do appreciate all of the things you do to keep the cams going!!!

|
By Kathy Hall (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #629) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 4:02 pm: |
I hope these guys know where ALL the cables are. Ack! Now the heavy machinery is worrying me... (Mary - only difference in GA and AL is that imaginary line - and I live on it. )
|
By Kathy Hall (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #630) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 4:05 pm: |
Whoops on the double!
|
By Mary Mueller (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #3120) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 4:07 pm: |
LOL Kathy - that red clay goes through SC and into NC - as far as Raleigh. Though I swear it is redder in GA!!! Im a lucky - in that I live just far enough east of Raleigh that I do not have a red clay yard - only a few patches!!! Thank God - or all my kids socks and shoes would be stained red!!! Its bad enough when they visit relatives in SC - it takes me weeks of scrubbing to get the red clay out of their clothes!!!

By Jake Richter (Moderator - Post #5110) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 4:19 pm: |
Based on the above, I'm not sure if they will be done today to allow me to reconnect the ReefCam... May need to wait until tomorrow when they have stopped messing with things. The folks at Eden Beach were going to call me when things were ready.
|
By Mary Mueller (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #3121) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 4:24 pm: |
Susan - I would have to look up where that is - I think that is closer to Winston Salem - as most of Sarah Lee's operations are based out of there. I will let you know how close that is.
|
By Susanf (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #910) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 4:56 pm: |
Mary, you're right - come to think of it, she is close to Winston-Salem. Ah well...

By chris condon (New BonaireTalk Poster - Post #3) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 5:58 pm: |
Look like the "cleanup crew" may have taken out the reefcam cable!
|
By Kathy Hall (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #631) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 6:17 pm: |
Hi Chris, yes indeed they cut the cable. Maybe the beach needs a sign "Call Jake before you dig here". ;) Anyway, he says (if you read on back in the thread) that he thinks he can fix it tomorrow. We hope so!

Does this look like a sailboat? I had to go through the archives for it...it had been there all day, then it looks like a sail went up...oh, and the South Beach cam today would make a great flicky pic!!! anyone out there that can do it?
|
By Kathy Hall (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #632) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 6:24 pm: |
LOL, Sorry Barbara, I just got home and of course sat down to see what had happened since I last looked, and I'll tell 'ya, not much happened! (those guys got off too early)

Dilly, I keep trying to get people at work to download Mozilla Firefox (browser), and it's free. IE was killing me with it's adware sneaking in and all the problems. Mozilla is a different animal, but looks and acts much the same.
|
By Dilly Dillbream (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #760) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 6:48 pm: |
I give up...emailed it to Barbara, and emailed the Moderators...LOL...

By Kathy Hall (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #635) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 6:48 pm: |
Well, of course! Nearly every day I come in and kick off my shoes and various other uncomfortables (hehe) and sip wine from a lovely, lovely glass...and watch the sun set over a paradise island. Hell, if I wasn't me I'd be jealous of me. lol Seriously, wonderful way to de-stress.

By Kathy Hall (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #636) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 6:50 pm: |
See Barbara, about this time the sea is the color of zinfindel. lol cheers!

By Kathy Hall (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #637) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 6:57 pm: |
Dilly, try using Firefox, at least just for the Bonaire Webcams and see if it works for you...and it's got neat features, like favorites that you choose (like the cams) can be a tab on your toolbar, AND you can have umpteen screens open at once with the tabs, no losing where you were or opening up different sessions of IE. So sorry your 'puter is giving you trouble - but I suspect IE may be the problem, some kind of adware that's slipped in, messing with a bunch of ya'll.

Thank you Mary Mueller for your information and advice. Thank you Martin de Weger for the link to the damage report. Thank you Ronindiana for your information and take on the Divi. Sorry to response with thanks so late - but got dragged into four back to back meetings after I asked the question. Just finished my last meeting.
