Good Morning Irma, looks like it could be the moon in your pic. The rain has finally let up, and our basement is drying out. Can't wait to give the builder my opinion !

|
By Cynde (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #6559) on Saturday, May 17, 2003 - 12:34 pm: |
cindy, if i had been invited, i think i would have had to pass...don't like the stinging buggers! i remember them on the cams before, but the water must really be nutrient with them hanging around, either that or there are a lot of them being carried by the current...jellies do migrate toward the light where there is more likely a food source during the day as well...at the ocean institute where i volunteer, we have a moon jelly exhibit, stages from ephera all the way to the medusa stage. they are really pretty to watch in the circulation tank floating but that is as close as i like to get to them!

I'm not much of an expert (not at all actually) on them. I just tried to get as close as I could. I found them a bit tricky to catch with the camera.

By Jake Richter (Moderator - Post #4278) on Saturday, May 17, 2003 - 3:13 pm: |
For the most part they all appear to be spot wing comb jellies - they don't have stinging cells. Not sure about the ones on which you can't see spots though - the spots tend to be algae concentrations, so maybe they are spot wing jellies without so much algae?

thanks jake...the big ones without the spots must not be quite so full glad to know they don't sting back from running errands...which i really don't like much, especially around here...folks too busy talking on their cell phones to pay attention to where they are going!

annie, had to go look to see on the cam dwellers page to see if they had that tarpons school during the day just like our kids do! oh, they can inhabit a reef area for years...don't have that info on there...maybe martine can add that....there has been soooo much action on the cams today i'm having a hard time staying on task with my chores!
