Good morning Eileen and Olaf. I guess Martine is off to work by now. I haven't had any time to check in the past couple days, so I feel deprived. Hopefully today will let me take a peek from time to time. Looks like the lights are still on at the gate.

GMTA, Nice day here in NC again...Just wanted to thank all that have expressed good wishes for my family reference my son's spinal surgery. He came through yesterday in flying colors and is doing just great....Possibly will be able to come home today... I will be there with my taxi and fetch him on home. He will have a long recovery period but should proceed better at home. Hospitals will make you sick...LOL.. Again, thanks everyone.. I will be leaving soon and will try to get back to see the beautiful sunsets... Have a nice day everyone....UB

Annie, I have never seen it this slow before, I have broadband and I also took Jake's advise and logged in to BT in hopes that it would make it faster but no luck... We are either a bit over our capacity like Jake said or the net is just really clogged...Maybe it is over loaded by soldiers in Iraq trying to contact their loved ones... If that is the case then I will just get off and let them have it.... UB

Well, finished grading my students' quizzes, so I get to take a few minutes to watch the cams again. Boat up there, now. Maybe divers in a bit?
|
By John Lidington (Extraordinary BonaireTalker - Post #1125) on Friday, March 28, 2003 - 10:27 am: |
A little gate action, of the exit kind. I'm in and out of here, so hope someone is keeping a steady eye out for divers.

Well, boat's leaving, and no divers that I saw. Another dud.

The slower BT access is because of bandwidth issues at our end. Will be that way for a bit, unfortunately - we're looking to increase our server bandwidth, but it's expensive because we have to do it in megabit increments (an extra Mbps of traffic is close to a grand per month.

Jake--Is this also true of other Bonaire sites? I've been having trouble down-loading ExtraBon yesterday and today, but I thought it was here and not there.

Well Howdy everyone. I'm back in the pool for some quick chat. I've been way out of the loop for about a month now. It seems that all that nasty business in the news hasn't effected the chat. I'm very happy.

Jake, no worries...loading is worth the wait...but i guess we could start making the threads shorter so they are easier to load Remember folks, it costs money to run an internet business...bandwidth is like renting the building...building gets crowded, costs money to rent a bigger space
|
By bluetang (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #362) on Friday, March 28, 2003 - 5:51 pm: |
jake, does your provider "ding" you for overuse of bandwidth? i know we had huge "penalty" costs for going over our allotment, so we had to buy more although for us, that was a good thing
|
By bluetang (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #363) on Friday, March 28, 2003 - 5:52 pm: |
oops, forgot my sunset pic
|
By Jake Richter (Moderator - Post #4134) on Friday, March 28, 2003 - 6:01 pm: |
One reason we have the current bandwidth trauma is that we went way over our allotment in January and February and the first half of March without realizing it, and yes, they dinged us big time (way too late to fix it sooner, mind you). Major ouch. So we're doing what we can to avoid being dinged again.

By Barbara Leary (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #905) on Friday, March 28, 2003 - 6:25 pm: |
Hmmm, maybe we're starting the short thread thing (Jake, is 50 a good cutoff for string length?) or more likely, everyone is off to a nice weekend (hope!) Gotta go, myself...see you all!
|
By bluetang (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #366) on Friday, March 28, 2003 - 6:27 pm: |
jake, ouch! we were charged THOUSANDS of dollars in penalties! it is like they triple charge for going over your limit...ok folks, let's move to a new thread for the sunsets
|
