Hi. If I am renting a truck for a week on Bonaire, do I need to get an international drivers license? Someone said they think so. I knew I could find the answer here!!

No! Your valid drivers license will do. It's just like driving in the states... Have fun and enjoy!

Andrea, keep in mind that all of the signs are in Dutch. Scroll down toward the bottom of this page and it gives you the Dutch signs, and the meanings have a great trip!

The road signs may be in Dutch but have pictures also, you actually get a little bit of language education. I have learned several words in Dutch by looking at the signs and words. Speed limits are in KPH (kilometers) rather than MPH but all the trucks we have rented have both on the speedometer. You drive on the right side of the road like in the US. The only place I had any problem is at the roundabout north of town, I can never remember which has the right of way. Whether those coming in or those going around.

at the roundabout (aka traffic circle, rotary, etc.) if you are entering from the north or south, you have the right of way. if you are entering from the east or west you have to yield. just enter or circle with a lot of caution...most people do get confused.

Anyone renting a vehicle on Bonaire really should know what these symbols mean. Check it out BEFORE getting behind the wheel...

The triangles painted on the road mean you have to let cars on the crossing road pass, otherwise... CRASH...

Funnily enough, those triangles on the road are called "haaientanden" - Dutch for "shark's teeth". Very appropriate for Bonaire, me thinks.

A lot of the signs on Bonaire are the same as in Holland, check out this site for more info. (Put the mouse on the picture for explanation.)

I looked at the signs that Martin posted and many of them are universally used, some are identical in the US.

Most of the signs are (sort of) the same on Bonaire, just minor differences.
