While we were on the Island in January we loved to take lunch at the Mankey Snack. We noticed the locals carrying out bags of brownish flour 2 at a time. So of course we had to have some. After a minor incident at customs, (drugs?) we were able to get the stuff home. So. What is it folks? Its not flour or corn meal.

we LOVE Maikey Snack, the pesca hasa plate is very tastey..and you can't get any more " local cusine" than the kabrita stoba or goat stew than here..the goats are part of the scenic landscape while you await your meal...watch out for the condiment in the jar..it packs a punch ! you can order half and half, that is a half portion of rice and half portion of ff's..also funchi available here..try it !

the condiment in the jar is called pika soboyo (hot onion) it is on the table in every bonaire home .. we can't eat without it .. it is made by chopping the hot peppers we call madame jeanette - a type of hapenero pepper grown here .. mixed with chopped onions put in a GLASS jar and then covered with vinegar .. great stuff ...
