One consideration is lightweight long pants for dining outside when the mosquitoes are biting (most of the time)They do seem to love hanging out under the tables in wind blocked areas. The trick to packing is bring more swimsuits than you think you need and less of everything else! Have a great time.

I also have to add that at some of the "nicer" restaurants, they do appreciate nicer shorts, shirts, etc., nothing fancy but a step up from the t-shirt and very casual shorts dress ;-)

This has all been said somewhere before, but I have to add that if you look around at what local people are wearing downtown and to restaurants, with little exception, it's generally a notch above what we have on: nicer long pants, skirts to knees, ect.

By Cyn (GH) (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #239) on Thursday, November 23, 2006 - 2:58 pm: |
Barbara, you are right on I wear a skirt, but it's above the knee. I even worke HEELS this last time (ok, 1 inch heels, but they were heels)...lol...

I feel that it is a form of respect for the establishment and other diners in a nice restaurant to "Make an effort".

Anthony, the hat thing. Some folks have gotten too relaxed. There are a few restaurants locally that request you take your ball cap off while dining

CB, I'm thinking "Queen Hats"...heh heh...my only problem with taking the ball cap off is that I have HORRIBLE hat hair. Please channel your grandpa and I'll channel my grandma and let's see what they come up with

As I don't like skirts and long pants are hot I opt for a compromise, I wear culottes, capri pants or gaucho pants with a nice shirt/blouse. Dave wears nicer shorts and a shirt with a collar. We both wear sandals. Neither one of us is bothered much by the local bugs. I agree about the hats, hate to see men with hats on at the table.

ok mare, thanks for the advice. y'know i think i've zeroed in on the clothes for a nice dinner out, white shoes, powder blue double knit polyester slacks, and a really cool synthetic shirt with the big wide collar left unbuttoned down half way to show off all 5 hairs on my chest.

Speaking of that picture, I think Joe looks ridiculous in that Chicago Blackhawk hat (see my profile pic for better view)...what WAS he thinking?
|
By Barbara "CB" Gibson (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #440) on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 - 12:42 am: |
Cam, I once shared a breakfast table with a Canadian family, the dad of which had on a hat that said "Goofy Boy Productions". He said his wife had had it made for him to wear when he and his buddies came to the US on ski trips...said she made him leave the country if he was going to act that silly. Man, I wanted that hat!
