There are a lot of very good shops on Bonaire. The best recommendation I can give is to use the shop at the resort you are staying at. It just makes things easier. Three shops that I have had experience with and/or had dealing with their operators and can recommend are Buddy Dive, Sand Dollar and Wannadivebonaire. An alternative that you might find to be a better option is to do what is known as a referal. You do all of the book and pool work at your local dive shop and then complete the required open water dives in Bonaire. This way you have more time to study and work out any questions/problems you have at home. It also saves a lot of vacation time. Just be sure to get all the correct paperwork before you leave home. A lot of people take this option.

We spent a week just snorkeling. It was fantastic. The water is almost always calm and clear. There are some sites we discovered that you have to pick your time to go as the wind seems to pick up at various times of the day making it a little more uncomfortable to enter from the shore. Windsock is an example. The first time we tried it was late afternoon. There was a bit of a surge and we didn't find the best entrance, so got kind of beaten up by the coral and surge and decided to leave. We went back early one morning and it was very calm which also allowed us to find the best sandy entrance. Well, worth going back. So, if a site looks a little rough, try again at a different time of day. Also, take a snorkel tour from a boat. The Woodwind is great. They take you to some great sites. Bonaire is wonderful for snorkeling. So many fish. You will love it! Have fun.

Well, somewhere in the threads, someone mentioned snakes or legless lizards. Whcih ever they are they are buzzless, venomless and rare. The scenery is like lower elevation Arizona, but the humidity year-round is high, and they have wild parrots and parakeets to boot. If you like birds, be sure to allocate some time for checking them out. Do a search on 'birds' and you will find lots of discussions and pictures.
