Wayne, I believe that Susan at Bon-Bini Divers is the person to address (see elswhere in Bonaire Talk). She even tried to convince me once to store dead bats in the freezer :-)

Better late than never to post, but there is a Bat conservation group on Bonaire! I was thrilled to find this out, especially since I live in a West Nile Virus area, I for one am all for building bat houses to help mother nature out in eating mosquitoes. Besides, I am not a real fan of chemicals, & bats are worth more than weight in gold for the amount of mosquitoes they eat So glad to see Bonaire taking an interest in building bat houses too!

Where is the best place to watch for bats on the island?

Rose--pretty much anywhere where there isn't a great deal of development, and sometimes they are around even those areas. Sit quietly at dusk, and pretty soon, they'll be flitting around you, or you'll see them exiting their roof-top homes, or other locations at dusk.

Oh, Rose, if you are out at the Lagoen Hill area, you'll see lots of bats. Just drive in a little ways (at dusk or shortly afterward) on any of the dirt roads, and you'll see plenty!
