I have been through one cave...the one that has the Indian inscriptions on the windward side....are their others ...are they worth checking out....and how deep do they go? Steve is a little uneasy in the close surroundings of caves. but I just love the rock formations!

Hi all,

On behalf of the Bat Action Team, I would like to suggest that any cave explorations be done with care. By that I mean, in-depth exploration of caves should only be conducted by those trained in this, as the caves, their inhabitants, and eco-systems, are very fragile.

Nonetheless, there are a few cave systems which are in use for commercial purposes, and BAT encourages anyone wishing to visit caves to use these areas also.

Susan

I volunteered to talk on caves in Bonaire to Hidden Earth '04 in two weeks. I have visited the island on two occasions the last being a year ago when we went on the cave snorkelling trip. Having been a caver and a qualified cave diver for many years, a keen photogapher and amateur naturalist I was most interested. I was wondering anybody out there knew of a local caving group or contact who might be able to supply me with up to date information on contacts for visiting British cavers or cave divers who might be interested in some exploration or photography.

Peter,

For general cave issues, you may want to contact Papi Cecilia - I think you can find him by calling +599-7-175330 and pressing 0 and asking for him (or SKAL - the island's cultural department).

In terms of cave diving, contact Buddy Dive (www.buddydive.com) or Photo Tours/Yellow Submarine (www.bonaireyellowsubmarine.com). Both only offer cave snorkeling, but they may know if there's a current authority on diving Bonaire's caves.

Jake
