Hi all!,does anybody know if there are papiamento bookguides for spanish speaking people?,I would like so much to have one and start learning the language.It´s amazing but it´s more simple to find ducth bookguides or dictionaries here in Venezuela than in papiamento,I mean,being the Netherland Antilles our neighbours I think it would be easier.Thanks in advance for all your help!

Presently, there are none that I have run accross. I know the local Papiamento teachers would love it if there were.

I´ve found it but...it´s for english speaker but I´m happy anyway ´cause it could work anyway if I first use my dictionaries to translate from english to spanish and that way I´ll find out what the papiamento word says.Thank you so much Mrs.Andy&Dave for your help,I really appreciate it.And last but not least I thank you Mr.Michael for answering me and try to help.

Esa era tambien el unico libro de Papiamentu - Español. E.R. Goilo is the only one that made an attempt to issue a translation of papiamentu and spanish. If I'm not mistaken the book goes both ways, from Papiamentu in Spanish, and Spanish in Papiamentu. After mr Goilo, no one tried. Mind you though mr Victor, that the spelling is way off; we now have a totally new and different spelling than the one Goilo has used. Hopi éksito ku e estudio di Papiamentu. Lo mi ta dispuesto pa yuda ku e ortografia (I'm willing to help with the spelling).

Hi Mr.J.T!,nice to meet you!.What you say make me feel lucky.I don´t understand why no one else is interested in making more papiamentu bookguides or dictionaries,being both languages so similar,I would dare to say that papiamentu it´s a spanish based language basicly.Maybe the lack of willingness is due to most of antilleans are able to speak and understand spanish.

Victor .....several years ago I saw a book in Curacao papiamentu-spanish-english. for travelers.perhaps if you write to van patten books they can inform where to find it..

Victor, what can also help a bit is the "Dictionario di 5 Idioma" by Jossy M. Mansur. It helps when you remember a word in Spanish or English, Dutch or French - to get the Papiamentu word. He is Aruban, so the spelling may be a little different than what is used in Curacao and Bonaire. I use it a lot. Aveces yo se la palabra en espanol, holandes o ingles y asi puedo buscar la palabra en papiamento.
