Does anyone have a recommendation on what kind of film to buy for under water shots? What speed?

Also, the party is the day after we arrive. Does anyone know if we can buy air without going through orientation first. Does each resort have their own orientation? We will be a Capt. Don's.
Is anyone familiar with what time they have orientation?

I use 400 speed film for underwater, and my pictures come out pretty good. :-)

You will probably have to do an orientation the morning after you arrive, then you will be able to get air. I don't think you can get air without doing your orientation. They usually do it in the morning, probably around 8:30-9:00 am or so.

Ditto what Kelly said, except digital is the best speed film. You could use 200 speed film in Bonaire, lots of light and has better grain.

I have used both 200 and 400, and they both seem to do the same on Bonaire, but locally, 400 works best cause of the vis and kelp:-)

Terri, go to Cap Don's website, Cap Don's they don't let you rent tanks until you go through the orientation. They do say that sometimes they provide an afternoon orientation for late arrivers. I don't know of any of the shops that would let you get air before going through orientation:-) Off to work!

Great pics this morning... I've missed a lot. I agree on the film speed of 200 that seems to be popular. I used 100 on some dives and they seem just a little on the dark side, especially on the days when it was somewhat overcast. Of course, my underwater camera is a bit old and not that great.

Terri, when we stayed at Captain Don's the orientation was every morning around 9:00 if I recall. The last time down we didn't stay there and ended up using Photo Tours for diving. Since it was a slow time on the island they were just doing the orientation whenever anyone came in for their first dives... quite convenient. Seemed kind of silly going through the orientation again after just 2 years, but I do think it's a good policy and it's not that much of an inconvenience.

Have great trips, everyone... you've really brought back my PBD with all the talk of getting down to the cams. :-)

Now what the HECK is this??? loose seaweed? skeleton rising from the depths? I take my unprofessional underwater photos with a fuji underwater camera (depth 17 tiny feet)...us snorkelers get a little more light and a lot fewer fish! LOL

Michael, my condolences...it does bring on a bad case of PBD...last month when EVERYONE was on the island for Martin and Angela's wedding, I was just beside myself!

Barbara, that is parrot poop...or more politely, a parrot helping to make more sand on Bonaire:-)

Hi everybody,
I am back in time to wish a nice trip to all those leaving tonight. We are waiting for you on the cams now. Just enjoy as much as you can. Time is running so fast when on vacation...
Oh annie, I feel so sory for your Mom, I wish everything will be OK soon.
I am just returning from my annual check and the surgeon found me in the best health. Thanks God.
I also turned an example for him showing breast cancer and diving perfectly combine. He has been often asked about this matter and couldn't answer. After my check up and my diving reports, he said he is pleased to see pressure doesn't affect the wounded areas and then diving is safe. Isn't it a great new for all divers ?
Niki, if you're still lurking, would you mind sending me your email in private, I would like to send you some pics and talk a bit longer than on BT.
Well gang, I feel exhausted now, too much stress :o)
Time for me to say good night, just going to bed now, read a while and fall asleep rocked by the thunderstrom.
Sweet dreams all. A safe trip and nice holidays to you Cynde, Terri and Kelly.
