Hi Martine,
Yes its the same here, very wet, I sometimes wonder if we are going to get a summer this year,I dont remember once yet this year where I had to take my jumper off.It seems like you have the same weather as us. (I bet you are wishing you were back at Bonaire.) Do you get to travel with your job?
Enjoy your day off.

Hi, morning Maria
You are right, I wish I am in Bonaire. It has to wait till september... Yes, my job helps a lot to travel, but I don't travel when working, I just send the plane...without me. Try to enjoy this rainy day the best you can.

Good Morning! I am getting ready for work now! It has been very hot and humid in Southern Ontario, we are hoping for some rain, it has not rained here for awhile.

There must be somewhere in the world that has a perfect climate. (Bonaire perhaps?)

Jake, I hope the weather improves for your visit to London. As there are some nice places and parks to visit on a sunny day. not long now, I expect you are already packing. (have a safe journey)

Eileen, Sorry it's humid over there, can't be much fun when you have to go to work. Are you going to Bonaire this year?

Hello Maria!

My favourite time of year here is Autumn, not too hot and not too rainy and the leaves are beautiful. It isn't fun in the humid weather (thank goodness for air conditioning) and it isn't fun if it has rained for days on end. My husband and I are moving in a few weeks so I do not think we afford a trip this year! We are doing our pool portion of Scuba this Autumn and will complete our Open Water down south and Bonaire is on our list! But we are definately going down south in Feb! During the summers one can SCUBA in Ontario, there are many wrecks here and Tobemory is world famous. The water is cold though. Now I am off to face the traffic and work! Have a great day! Eileen

Jake, did you plan to visit France too ? Don't forget your umbrella !
Eileen, the sunshine you sent didn't arrive yet.
Maria, why don't you go to Bonaire for your vacations, there is an everyday plane from Amsterdam...Quite easy to get there from europe. We were in Bonaire from june 09th till 22nd and didn't see the slicest drop of rain.

I talked with some canadian divers when we were in Guadeloupe and they said in Montreal the Saint Laurent is covered with hundreds of wrecks and you can dive and snorkel upon easily from the shore. It sounds fabulous !

Martine,
I would love to go to Bonaire, but pretty much tied at the moment, looking after my old dad, who is 93, unless someone can take over, the only place I can travel is on the internet, but who knows perhaps the chance will come along one day.

Hi Annie B, Lovely weather for ducks.

Hi carole, morning,
I think all those living in a sea side, dry, sunny, over 25 degrees, and never raining country shouldn't mention about their weather till winter... Need a coffee to warm a bit, and if anybody refers to a swimm in his/her swimming pool to cool, I switch off.

Hi Martine,
You know what they say about the "grass always being greener on the other side"! Even though I live less than 5 miles from the ocean, I rarely go in the summer because of parking (too many visitors). By the time you have your swim and get back to the car, you are hot all over again.

Welcome to the "wet people" new club ! I got some more holidays to take from september 7th till the end of september, with rather good chances to be back in Bonaire, but nothing fixed yet. Perhaps we meet there, it would be nice. Maria, I truly wish you soon could enjoy Bonaire other than via Internet. Carol, I feel much better after reading the last message you posted. Tell you what, I would be glad to swap weather with Europe for awhile. We had a total of 4 inches of rain during our last 'rainy' season. And we are in for a stretch of 100% F heat. We could use some cool weather and about a week of light rain.

Hi Linnea, good morning,
I understand what you mean. Sometimes it's drammatical. I heard about these awful fires in Arizona this year and California last year. In France too, it's very dry, even near Paris, it hasn't rained enough to refill the underground pounds, and regularly they ask not to water the gardens and fill the swimming pools to save water. South of France and Corsica often suffer great fires and millions of pinetrees yards are destroyed each year. Anyway, do you want to swap your appartment with me ?

Good morning, Annie, Maria, Martine, Eileen, Carol...and anyone I missed! We had a bit of your rain yesterday but didn't cool off much. I think someone put all the weather in a hat and tossed it because it sounds like none of us have 'normal' weather this year. I got an opportunity through a customer at the dive shop for 4 days in Cozumel in August and I'm going. Wonder if Coz has a webcam? Maybe that will soothe my Bonaire cravings until we get there in January. Annie, enjoy Cyprus. Sounds like an interesting place. Is it a big tourist place? Is there diving? Snorkeling? I'm off to work soon. I'll check for divers and fun fish there, maybe.

Annie, Just checked the Cyprus webcam. It looks like a huge resort. And so high! Nothing that tall on Bonaire. Those dark patches in the water just beg to be explored with a snorkel. Let us know what you see. Now I really have to get ready for work. No more 'camming' around.

Looks like a super place, perhaps you could try snorkeling in that lovely pool, and then venture into the sea later. Its very hot over there and the sea is warm so you should be okay. Looks like you have a nice beach too. When we went to Agia Napa, there was only one good beach, the rest of the coastline was very rocky even though you could walk for miles by the sea.
What are the beaches on Bonaire like?

Hi Annie, waouh, nice place, wish I could go too. Do you know what I have found regarding this resort ? THIS ! "Our water sports centre has something for everyone". Annie, you don't need to go very far away to snorkel, just keep close to the shore. Just try once, do it with your friends or some other persons you'll meet at the resort. Just do it alltogether, it helps and you'll have fun, and there is not matter of being frightened.
Do you promice ? Just try, and I bet you get addicted to it.

Maria, there are few small sandy beaches on Bonaire, but they are not as idyllic as the caribbeans beaches you use to see on the travel agencies posters. Most of the beaches are covered with coral cobble and have sharpy coral shore, and you need shoes to walk. But keep in mind, most people go to Bonaire for diving, and this doesn't really matter for us, divers.

Just back from taking the cat to the vet for her yearly checkup $$$$$$$...Annie, you can get a snorkel vest to wear when you snorkel, so you don't have to worry about sinking. Maria has a good idea to try it out in the pool first to get used to the gear....then go out somewhere very calm.

Martine, do you like to mow lawns? My house is on a 1/3 of an acre, I don't know what that is in metric though. The lot is about 30 meters by 40 meters, lots and lots of grass. They haven't started water warnings here yet since we get most of our water from up north and they have had near normal amounts of rain and snow. I'm not sure I could live in an apartment, I'm used to having space around me. Most of the new houses are on lots that barely have room to walk around the outside without having to walk through your neighbors house. I live in a house that was built 50 years ago when land was cheap. House - small, lot - big.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Bookie on Tuesday, July 9, 2002 - 3:28 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

If Martine is starting a lawn mowing service, she can do mine. I'll even supply the mower. I have a standard lot and the backyard has an 18 X 34 foot pool about 4 1/2 feet deep she can flop into when mowing gets too hot. When it's so hot and humid I find myself doing a lap of the lawn and then the pool, kind of like cross-training.

Annie, I was a giant chicken when it came to snorkeling the first time. I nearly drowned my husband holding on so tight. So I got a mask, fins, and snorkel and practiced a whole summer in the pool and the next time we went in the ocean I was more confident. Starting in the resort pool is a great idea as is a snorkel vest. The fish watching in the pool might not be the greatest but then it's also an easier quantity of water to deal with. You go, girl!

I think I'll turn the greatest french mower in the US then !
Annie, I learned to swim when I was 7 at my aunt's on the french riviera, then I started to have fun snorkeling and chasing female urchins,( we also eat urchins, males are uneatable, and they are very tasty, in mean the inside, with bread and butter ),I was swimming with a small knife and little bag when suddenly, approching a tiny cave in the rock where the urchins were, I saw a tiny little scarred octopus. I was so frightened I dropped both knife and urchins bag. They must still be on the place...Four years ago, I was training for my French open water level in Guadeloupe. Snakes are my geatest fear . The first time my dive master showed me a small snake eel, I was terrorized and refused to get closer, my dive master declared I was refusing the environment and didn't want to give me the certification. He finally gave it to me cause I did manage quite right when I was out of air 15m deep. ( yes, it's truly happened ) Now Annie, I have around 300 dives and learned to dominate my fears. I do not even imagine our vacations without diving, and I don't care when I see all kind of eels. Just start in the swimming pool, as everybody suggests, wear a snorkel vest, and as Bookie says, you'll be more confident to snorkel in the sea. The world is so beautiful downunder you will love it.

Martine, Bookie and Maria, I would like to thank you all for your words of encouragement in trying to get me into the water. OK at the moment I am feeling a little braver about trying it. Good idea about using the pool first. Sticking my neck out here now. I will promise that I will try. I cannot swim very much, but if I can just get my face in the water that would be good, (I think). My son will lend me his mask & snorkel. Am going to get used to wearing the mask round the house first. Can you just picture that. ha ha. Oh my goodness what am I letting myself in for. Will talk again tomorrow. Are you working tomorrow Martine? Annie B.
