I had been noticing that it needed a good wipe! thanks Jake. Also, did he put the new "stay off the bottom sign up?" Here is the "California pigeon of the sea...the wonderful garabaldi...when you dive here, they are everywhere...garabaldi.gif

Jake will add the new sign the next time he heads out with scuba gear on.

The folks I was talking to above were none other than Sharyn Spray and her partner Rusty Owens. I had told them I was going to go for a dive this morning to clean the lens, so they decided to come over for a snorkel (and I decided to snorkel instead of dive myself).

Cynde, I feel ripped, I dove the Coast Guard Pier in Monterey last year and I didn't see any of those guys. I saw Anemones, Sunflower Starfish and Seals so I would complain to much.

Cecil, they are a "protected species" now, so their numbers have grown. They are pretty cocky too...it is funny, you can swim right up to them and have a stare down and they won't flinch cause they know you can't touch 'em! We even heard a story of a diver who got their ear bitten by one...through their hood...still wondering about that one though. They are really abundant in the kelp beds off of Catalina Island which is where we do most of our local diving. I have only seen the seals in Montery from the dock..that must have been fun. We ocassionally get them down here but they don't come close and usually take a peak at us and then jam away....
