It could be a Sherwood. They are designed to "vent" a constant stream of air to keep water from entering the first stage.

Thank you Mr./Ms. anonymous...I have never heard of the Sherwood. Does it decrease your dive time because it is constantly expressing air? Does it make a noise (like a leak would)?

All Sherwood 1st stages release a very small trickle of air bubbles and it has no affect on bottom time. They have been around almost forever and you often see their equipment in rental service as it almost impervious to divers. No noise is emitted and if a Sherwood does not trickle, take it to the shop !!!
