Hi all,

While the ReefCam appeared to be working to all of you on-line for the last couple of minutes, don't get your hopes up. We may have another cable problem and not a camera problem after all. I'm working on diagnosing things a bit better today.

Jake

After a couple of dives swapping equipment and doing more tests, it appears that the problem is indeed the cable. The old camera was and is in fine health (but the test cable I used to test it when I got it out of the water last week was not). Sigh.

Because the cables are specially made, it will be at least a week and a half before the ReefCam is fully operational again. Sorry. Although, if I can bring the cable back from the U.S. with me next week, we may have a cable replacement party dive on March 9th to precede the BonaireTalk BBQ - any volunteers? :-)

And I thought I was going crazy. My first log-in this morning gave me a reefcam view, albeit rather poor definition. The next capture it was gone. I was thinking I'd jinxed it.
If this is the cable, does that mean less $$$ to fix?

Yep. Less $$$ to fix it, but longer time to get a replacement cable, more expensive to ship (it's about 40lbs), and a lot more work installing it :-(

Jake, I'm not sure we know anything about cabling, especially underwater webcams, but if it's a matter of grunt work, that we can do. Actually, Jim is really quite good with most projects. He's gonna love I volunteered him again! But, since we are talking my life line here, I'm sure he won't mind. What time do you want start?

Nice tiles, Cynde! The back-up camera's actually only a loaner (the camera maker's been pretty good to us as we keep stress testing their equipment for them).

De Etta - No guarantee on my actually having the cable on March 9th - I'm just hoping... I'll know more by tomorrow... I hope :-)

But, if I do have the cable, Jim's welcome to help.

Jake

Speaking of volunteering your hubby, I'm going to do it to John. He is a techie on dry land so this would just add a twist to things. We come in late on the 4th Mar and leave early on the 11th. So any time we are there (staying at BelMar), would love to help. tick tick tick tick ... getting ready to have some wet fun!

by the way, Jake & Linda, if there is anything special you would like from the Maritimes, just let me know and we will bring it along. I understand you are parial to bagels ... have you ever tried Montreal bagels? yummy
