Very neat, Bas! Where was this taken and when? Great shot! There is always something going on when we "think" it is all quiet outside. Beautiful set up on the photo with gorgeous colors and activity. Thanks again for keeping us entertained at this late hour of the night! Carole

Ah - a sweet little bat pollinating the bananas for us! And getting a sip of nectar in the deal. Mother Nature never sleeps. Thank you, Bas!

Hi Meryl - yup, you need a little gizmo called a gif animator. There are bunches of them available as shareware at tucows.com and download.com. They take two or more pix and put them together like a flip-book. Many have a wizard - so you just choose the pix and tell it to go! I use an old one called GifCon.

Thanks Rusty! will check it out....I'm still in the flinstone era with computer stuff
|
By Rusty Clark on Saturday, February 16, 2002 - 12:05 pm: |
If you can unzip a file - I can email you the GifCon - it's about a half a MB (five minute download or so at 28.8) and has a wizard.

Mornin gang...Ok, again, as I am "ink blot" challenged...I don't see a bat, it looks like Patrick from spongebobsquarepants...where is the bat, where is the banana tree, where is the nectar...please...driving me crazy...
|
By Cindy Reed on Saturday, February 16, 2002 - 2:42 pm: |
Hi Cynde - the big purple thing is the banana flower/pod (whatever). If you look to the right, you'll see the bats wing (kinda purple veined), his foot is about midway down the pod. If you look closely in the yellow area at the top, you can see his nose and ear.
|
By Rusty Clark on Saturday, February 16, 2002 - 2:44 pm: |
Hey Cynde - for the biologically-impaired LOL:
|
By Cynde Lee on Saturday, February 16, 2002 - 2:46 pm: |
thanks cindy, whew...i really was feeling left out that i couldn't see him!...is it the left side of the bat we are seeing, and you don't see his front foot do you? his nose is pushed up in the flower, right?
|
By Cindy Reed on Saturday, February 16, 2002 - 2:53 pm: |
I think Rusty's explanation says it all. LOL
|
By Rusty Clark on Saturday, February 16, 2002 - 2:58 pm: |
Cindy - an opportunity to use my degree! Yay! LOL I remember once looking at a Gary Larson cartoon with apes and banana plants and the bunches were drawn UPSIDE DOWN. Years later I was reading an article on him and he mentioned that he got TONS of mail from biologists about that particular mistake he made - it bugged him, too, because he liked accuracy in his work.

Rusty, this is a picture taken at the downtown Lakeland Gardens on Christmas Day. They have a ton of bananas, we just have grapefruit and key limes.
