Good morning, Chris! Betcha the floaters are the female and the subordinate male bluehead wrasses waiting for noon-time!

PBD is setting in bigtime here, got back yesterday PM after 9+ days. Thanks to all who captured us at the reefcam Thursday morning. We were the ones whose message did not come through on the cam. I did take a shot of it at the cam with my own camera and if anyone cares here it is:

Great shot and yeah - the Pats sure were impressive this year! It's snowing here this morning - you must feel like you went thru a time warp!

Rusty, I just came back from my week in Fl and I am slapping on the moisturizer over my sunburn (at work in Newburyport MA) - definitely a time warp ! Not PBD, but along that line :-)

Denise - you have PTD - Post Tropical Depression. What's worse - getting SAD from sitting in the dark all winter or PTD from coming home to winter cold/dark after a week in Paradise? Hmmm.

Wrasses - party on, dudes and dudettes!

Gary,

The water's freezing now (at least for us folks who live on Bonaire - it's a chilly 79 degrees Fahrenheit). I went in with a shorty yesterday and got cold quickly!

Seriously though, if you're from colder climes your tolerance to water temps will be greater than mine. Certainly not a bad idea to bring a shorty and/or a good skin (makes for good sun protection and protection from any stinging cells you may (rarely) stumble upon.

Good Afternoon,

Jake.. Your description of the water temp is great. Living here in Florida we get down to about 70 degrees in the heart of Winter. It's full suit time then, 3MM, and even then you get cold after 2 dives. When the northerners come down on and dive in January they wear a Speedo and that's it.

Question to all: Are there readily avaiable ATM's downtown??

I used to live about an hour north of you in my junior high school days and still recall the shock of seeing crazy winter tourists swimming in the frigid waters off Palm Beach, with nothing more on than a swimsuit. Brrr!

ATMs - lots of them available - 5 or 6 downtown alone. All appear to take Cirrus.

Why does the cam seem to be getting puff balls so quickly? Lately it seems that the lens is cleaned and then 2-3 hours later it is puffball city again.

Bob,

Siltation combined with surge is the reason.

But, we have some divers going in right now to do a cleaning, and now that I bought a new regulator (a Sherwood Oasis to keep my mouth from being dry like cotton) and am also safe to dive, I expect to be going in to clean the lens a bit more frequently once again :-)

Oh, the visitors are Steve Craft and his wife Leann - Steve's been active on BT recently. Had a great flight on AJ too, for those keeping track.

jake,
thanks for the info. we did ok in cayman in feb and belize in oct. we're staying at the black durgon, is there anything to know about that place? good or bad.

Black Durgon is about 5 houses north of where we live. There are people here on Bonaire Talk who love staying there, and keep going back time and time again (Lonnie Hoover and Peggy Bowen among them) - so that's a pretty good endorsement.

I've never been in the units so I don't know what the rooms are like. I've been told the atmosphere is a little "campy", whatever that means.

Al, the owner, appears to not care much for me though - he either grrs, grumbles, or ignores me when I say hi when I see him around the island. But I understand that with some people he does actually warm up :-)

Cynde,
Thanks for the "heads-up" about the members' archive feature. I just tried it...very fun. Do you know how to post a pic off the archive onto the BT posting?

Jan,

Click the "Download" button you will see under all the archive and live images (as a paid member), save the image to your hard disk, and then create a message on BonaireTalk with the following:

\image{TitleForImage}

Post the message, and you'll be prompted to upload an image. Specify the image you just saved, and poof!

More details on posting are given here on the home page (lower right column at http://www.oldbonairetalk.com).

Hi
A friend goes to Bonaire and long/short I ended up here. Install an aquarium pump to clean the lens/ blow it off, battery or electric if available. Make sense, yes/no.

Nice cams, thanks guys. Should we visit, were bvi folks & don't scuba? Like easy snorkels though.

Gary - I can answer any question about the Black Durgon if you want. Since I have a hard time posting, you could e-mail me direct at pegdiver@monmouth.com
Ed and I have been staying there for years. Clean, small, inexpensive, quiet, love the kitchen area at water level! Most people stay for a few weeks there, we would meet people every year down there. And a bonus, you have Small Wall dive site just to the left of the dock.
