Grendel would understand. :) But can she read?

Water bottles - to take fresh water to the beach for rinsing off salt and sand before getting back in the car. Today was swim lesson day.

Grendel - She is a Fila Brasilia/Neapoliton Mastiff mix. The pretty fur comes from her mom the fila brasilia.

Hey Lea! It was so sweet of you to think of me. Im still here, just been lurking and listening to all you guys. Been real busy at work so posting pictures had to be moved to the bottom of my list. In fact, I think the last time I posted was when Don the Donkey came to visit one Saturday Evening and the kids were feeding him. I will have to go back in the archives and see when that was. Thanks again Lea, it is nice to be thought of. Goodnight All!

I'm going to Yap to see the manta rays. It won't take me much longer to get there than it does to Bonaire, even with two plane changes. This will be my first air trip since all of the added security.
I will post some pics if I can get my scanner to co-operate, it likes to lock everything up if I don't shut everything down between pictures. I scan a picture, copy it to Adobe, shut down, bring back up, repeat until all pictures are scanned. Close down scanner, bring up Adobe and cross my fingers that it won't lock up until I get thru massaging the pictures.
I saw Molly the Midnight Manta off of Little Cayman a few years ago after years of trying to see Mantas. On Yap there are plenty of Manta's along with all of the other pretty So. Pacific critters.
No Grendel tho.

Cynde, I did not get re-hitched, never, no-how, no-way. I just added the original spelling of my maiden name. When I retire I plan on dropping my ex's name. When I got divorced it was before women started taking back their maiden names. My sister did it after her second divorce, and kept it that way. I tease her by sending snail mail to Sonja Wyckoff-Sigfrid. Sounds like something from a Wagner opera.

Lots of Dutch, along with Norse, Sverge, Rus, Finn, and Saxon. My ancestors got around a lot even before they ended up on this continent to stay. The last European address was in Monnickendam, NL. There are some differences of opinion as to the original spelling, one is Wijkhof, another is Wijckhof, and yet another is Wijckof. My understanding is that the name means something like town court.

Pretty funny! Joe and I were married March 15, 1999 (yes, the Ides of March!). I am 12 years older than Joe and had my last name (Baker)for fifty years at that point in time....I never changed my surname to Ward after the wedding. I know I would never be able to remember write the "new" name, I have always been known as "Bake", "Baker", "CB",etc, since I was a kid....it is my identity. So much of a hassle to change all of the legal documents to Joe's last name, too, so I kept Baker and kept all of my legal documents in my name...Baker.

Joe does get mail addressed to "Joe Baker" and a friend of ours busts his chops sometimes and addresses mail to Joe Baker instead of Joe Ward. Folks usually address correspondence to both of us with our own respective names so it works out fine! So, "Baker" it will be until the day I leave this planet. Joe does not mind at all...could care less. The marriage certificate lists both names and that is what counts...it is legal and we never lost our own identities! I know lots of folks who kept their original/maiden names for the same reasons. pretty funny! CArole (Baker) aka Shutterbug!

PS I am still thrown off when I see something addressed as Mrs. Joseph Ward.....who??? Oh, you mean ME!!?? cb

lol...reading the postings about names...
i had to giggle....my maiden name is shieffelbien, which i have now claimed back..whoohooo....(possibly german origin had to trace back :-( doesnt seem to be many records)
man alive i dont think i would want to be known as Janeece Shieffelbien - Hedley - Whaley..
whoa too much handfull and i'd rather be me,
even if i get lots and lots of nicknames, like
shuffle bum, sniffle bean, baked beans..lol, shieffle the beans..AJAJAJAAJAJ..but it's crazy just like me..

This conversation is pretty funny! When Steve and I got married, I took his name, but joked about him changing his to my maiden name, Miller. Easier to spell and to pronounce. We STILL order pizza and make restaurant reservations using the name "Miller!"

We had a friend that hyphenated because she thought Jones (hubby's last name) was too boring.

Although I can't tell you how many times I've had to spell Richter. The only ones that seem to get it right the first time are those from California. "Like the earthquake, right?" Yes - Richter Scale.

I have a friend whos brother married a girl who refused to change her name because she did not want to be a Woodhead. Instead she suggested they combine both thier last names of Woodhead and Montrose and come out with Rosewood. She then said it would be cheaper if only one of them changed their name so she talked him into changing his to Montrose.

Some good stuff in this thread! A very close friend of mine grew up with the last name of Hiscock...when she married, she took her husband's name....she did take a lot of heat with her maiden name, obviously!

I think the only thing that gets to my husband with my using my name is that I still call in reservations under my last name, Baker....just old habit...nothing personal, but I am so used to "my" name and not Joe's! I know his family notices when I do this when we are all out in a group. No harm meant...just old habits die hard! LOL. Carole
