Now that The Netherlands has changed to the Euro, will Bonaire be changing their currency too?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Sarah on Wednesday, January 2, 2002 - 8:57 am:     Edit PostPrint Post

Sue, the answer is NO (I think).. the currency on BON is different to the Dutch Guilder, the BON currency is the NAFl, Netherlands Antilles Guilder.. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong! We always use dollars on BON, but currency was something we looked into when preparing for our first trip... S:)

Thanks Sarah,

I knew the BON currency was different to the Dutch Guilder, but as Bonaire is part of The Netherlands I did wonder.

Jake, I am looking at purchasing my tickets for the Boston Sea Rovers weekend in March. They still have not posted the speakers. Are you presenting on Saturday? I am thinking of getting tickets for Saturday day and night, not Sunday too. Depends on when you are scheduled :-) And still looking forward to dinner Sat. night. Just an FYI on the effect of difficulties in traveling to Bonaire - I dive with a group who have gone to Bonaire in April for many many many past years (they only missed one year - following hurricane to my knowledge). The group is not coming this year due to difficulty in putting together a reasonable package due to problems getting flights and no charters. They hope the next year will come together OK. :-( Sad to see this occuring.

Sue,

The Antilles will keep their currency. Only here in the Netherlands, we traded our good old guilder to the Euro. As far as I know, only in Suriname they change as well, because the dutch guilder is an official currency.

Denise,

I have no idea which of the two days of the BSR show I'll be presenting yet. I understand that the Web site pages at http://www.searovers.org detailing this info should be available soon (the president and secretary of the Sea Rovers were at the party here yesterday and confirmed that :-) ).
