Hey, Rusty, Good morning.
Saw the weather forecast for New England today--yukko pooey.
Looks "hopi nubla na Boneiru" this morning. Maybe the sun will break out down there and make us both feel better.

Hi Holly - how are things in your neck of the woods? I'm rooting for some Bonaire sun later - it never seems to stay cloudy all day there.

Bon Dia All. Looks like Beldar (our resident juvenile Coney) to me, great capture. The Blue Headed wrasse is named Bluebeard.

A few notes from the weekend, the outlaw scuba divers got off with a result of no finding and if they don't get busted in the next 6 months they're free. It took an hour long trial with witnesses, evidence and lots of testimony. The retrival of the snow mobile was orginally objected to by the prosecution but was entered into evidence because of the picture used by the defense to show the location. It was quite a story and one for the record books.

The other event was Jay's Eagle Court was Sunday, yes he finally got it after alot of yelling, screaming and wringing of hands. Very gratifing and we are very proud of his accomplishment. Those that don't know the story, Jay is our teenager, being typical, waited until the last possible second to get everything done for the Eagle requirements and his Eagle Project.

Hi Folks!
Haven't looked at the site in a while as my hubbie lost his job as his employers downsized the company to nothing and it was just too depressing reading about Bonaire and knowing we were not going to get there next year.
But on a jolly, festive note he has found a new job, went for the interview at 10 am and got the phone call at 3.30pm so we will be back to Bonaire in the summer.
Best wishes to everyone for the festive season. Ours is going to be much better than we thought.

Julia - Tell you husband congratulations. Glad to hear you'll be able to make it back to the island. My wife and I just made the decision in the last week to head back down in August of next year for our anniversary. The web cams went online about one week after we left last time, so I'm looking forward to seeing them in person...finally. :)

Good Afternoon all - very busy here, but was just taking a quick break. A little note of interest, just heard a double sonic boom which means the space shuttle is landing. We're on the direct path, but of course, once I've heard it, it's already past us - so I couldn't see it.

Welcome home Brian. Love the comics Rusty and great captures everyone. "The Other" Cindy

Just wondering - is "supermale" the name of a fish species, or is it what it sounds like - a male that is "more" male than your average male of that species? Sorry if this is an extremely elementary question...

It is good to be back; no PBD yet but probably will kick in soon the 50F drop in temp is not helping. I will do a trip report at the weekend as I am running around all week and with the credit cards bills due soon I don't want to file for chapter 11. Hee Hee.

Onto the next link as this too long

Yes - it was Sara & Hugh, and the Jelly Babies are yummy!

A "Supermale" is the final gender stage in the parrotfish life cycle. Parrot fish and most if not all wrasses are born female, and when opportunity arises, a female will become a male, and that phase is called "supermale", or more appropriately, "terminal phase". This phase change can happen quickly or slowly, but the end result is almost always (species dependent) very visually different from the intermediate/female phase (coloration, markings, etc.).

Jake, thank you so much for the explanation. If I can belabor the point just a little more: the fish that are actually born male, then, are not as bright as the fish that were females and now are males? And this also means any fish (of the species that do this) that dies of old age would be male? I do hope that Charlotte will not become Charlie any time soon!

Supemale is like Fonzie and the rest of the males are Richie Cunningham and Pottsie and Ralph. Of course, Joanie looks like a young guy, too. The immature males and the females in the Blueheads are really interesting because they look nothing like the strongly marked and differently-colored supermale. They are yellow with a dark, sometimes broken, stripe down the side.
