Let me share my frustration. Both of our 24-hour/7-day a week Internet connections to the outside world from Bonaire are down. The leased line went down a couple of weeks ago, and we switched to the wireless link we had in reserve. Well, Friday morning it went out, then was back up. Then it was mostly down all day Saturday and through Sunday Noon or so thanks to the efforts of a couple of excellent individuals.. Then at some point just before 4:44am this morning the wireless link went out again. To make matters worse, today is a government holiday, and our phone company (the provider of both the leased line and wireless link) is government run (but they call it privatized). I did manage to finally get someone on the emergency service line this morning at 8:30am, so hopefully the problem will be resolved shortly (apparently Friday's, Saturday/Sunday's, and today's wireless Internet problems are separate problems, as best I can tell from my diagnosis...).

Anyhow, until the problem is fixed, no live WebCam images. Sorry. I did manage to update a large chunk of the gap in the archives before the connection went out again this morning though.

Oh, and to make it even more fun, we had two power failures yesterday afternoon/evening for a total of about 5 hours of outages yesterday (Cams continued to work throughout, though).

Jake

I can imagine the frustration.... especially if everything goes at the same time!

Maybe we can send some good thoughts into your direction and hope that it will go smoother the coming days.

I fully understand your excitement. My husband Lou and I will be arriving in Bonaire on Wednesday. We are now counting the hours instead of the days. We will be celebrating our wedding anniversary in Bonaire-life just doesn't get any better!! Have a GREAT time on your vacation. It will surely be a sunny change from the isle of Britain.

Annie, you don't know about Jagermeister? Best durn cold medicine around. Buy it in the liquor store. Most people think its a liqueur, but, actually, it was concocted by a German doctor as a cold remedy. Its an herbal liqueur. It really does work. Even tastes like medicine. Keep it in the freezer.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By AK. Dan (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #892) on Monday, October 20, 2003 - 7:59 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

Its 35% alcohol, so it puts you to sleep as well. Had a cold myself a couple days ago. Took two ounces before I went to bed. Next morning? No cold.

Brandy and whiskey are okay for helping one to sleep. But Jagermeister, being herbal, really helps the cold, too.

German recipe, Cynde. If you like licorice, you will probably like Jagermeister. If not, drink it anyway--its good for what ails you.

Any liquor store worth its weight will have it.

i remember jagermeister. First time I tried it was in Utilla, we were playing a silly drinking game. (in my youth, mind you). I said it tasted like rancid cough medicine. Don't know if it helps a cold, but it will put you to sleep very nicely.
