[Mods, if this isn't the best place for this, please place it where you like]

Many of you have been diving on Cayman Brac so we thought you might be interested in this report from Foots, the diver/sculptor creating the artificial reef/sculpture garden know as Atlantis on the north side of Brac.

Spoke with Foots this morning, only hours after the eye of Gustav passed over. Says waves and wind annihilated the south side - "Looks like Beirut here!" Road breached almost everywhere, the old Divi looks like a war zone, all the docks (Brac Reef, Carib Sands, Divi, etc) utterly destroyed. Every single boat is now on the beach except for those that are totally missing. Massive damage to most or all structures. No power and the salt water distillation plant is non-functional. No reports of deaths yet but too soon to say for sure. Wind still 35 knots, rain endless, flooding everywhere in the coastal areas. And Foots passed a kidney stone in the middle of the night!

Here's an updated report - - with photos -- that I've just posted on Scubaboard:

I like Foots, but I'm afraid that he was exaggerating this time, claiming that simple road obstructions were "breaches", when they are not. Breaches are where the pavement gets washed away.

Since this time yesterday, I've had two different friends on the Brac drive ... in a small car, not a big pickup truck ... the Brac's southside road. Neither found any road wash-outs.

The one was stopped by downed power lines at 'Coral Isle' (bar at the crossroads at the West end bluff); the other made it through and down to the Resorts.

Divi Dock is gone, but ~2/3rds of the Brac Reef dock made it through. Photos at the above URL.
