Just wondering if anyone has any tips or advice for renting a vehicle for a month while on Bonaire?
Fro looking at a few of the websites, it appears this may wind up costing upwards of $2000. Do they generally have longer term rental discounts?
How much is the rental tax? I've read $3.50/day and I've seen on some sites upwards of $6/day.
What level of insurance is recommended? And I also notice that most vehicles are manual/Standard. Neither of us know how to drive stick. Will it be an issue finding a Automatic Trans vehicle?

If you are considering paying for insurance for your rental, I suggest that you research the AMEX premium insurance thru their credit cards. It will save you a bundle.

If you look around, there is at least one rental company that will rent for approx $220 per week for long term rentals without insurance.

you will have a hard time finding an automatic suitable for diving. Since the automatics are generally nicer cars, agencies ask that you don't use them for diving...why not learn to drive standard..should not be hard.

here on bonaire you must be able to drive a stick shift vehicle to pass your drivers license test .. so since the majority here can drive stick .. a shortage of automatic rentals due to a low demand ..and generally limited to an interest in "better" cars rather than trucks ..

When I was on island a couple weeks ago, I saw a few truck with "Automatic Transmission" stickers on their bumper or back window. It was in a rental car lot, so it was either AB Rentals or Island Rentals - they share the same lot.

Island Rental purchased a brand new automatic truck this past January.
