hey all - tried to rent a scooter at Rento-Fun and the price quotes you get in the parking lot surprisingly get changed when you get into the office and start on the paperwork. and when I asked the manager how come his rate was different than the one quoted me on the lot he got all offended like I'm a boat tourist he couldn't fool. I walked, and recommend you stay away from this potential rip-off. I'll get one elsewhere - pay more if I have to, but at least deal with an honest shop. Best to you all,
Tony

I would be surprised if Rento-Fun Drive tried to rip you off.

As everywhere, prices advertised are from & extras like taxes & insurances have to be added. In addition, there are different types of vehicles in similar groups, all of which have different prices. For example, pedal moped, 50cc Scooter, 100cc Scooter, motorcycle etc etc.

Rento-Fun has no need to rip people off. Firstly it is the nearest rental company to the port and as a rule, are sold out of vehicles before others have even rented one. The savvy cruise ship passenger books in advance, the not so savvy thousands that don't, have to fight over a few dozen vehicles.

The manager was probably offended because he was being wrongly accused of dishonesty by a complete stranger.

thanks for trying to set the record straight. The actual story is that the employee on the lot told me $32 and a $200 deposit. This went up by $15 when I was in the office and the deposit went up to $300. When I asked (not wrongly, Mr. Bond) why it was different than his own employee had told me, he got offended. He may not have been trying to rip me off, and I will give him the benefit of the doubt. He just was a rude guy and I was totally nice and respectful. So make of it what you will, and shop there if you like. He's probably a great guy to all his friends. Bonaire has been otherwise incredibly wonderful with friendly people everywhere (else) I have been. Peace.

Tony.

I assumed from your original post that there was a misleading sign in the parking lot of Rento-fun, now I see that you were misinformed by an employee.

Maybe a clear sign outside would help to prevent such mix-ups in future.

Glad that you otherwise had an enjoyable trip.

I with you on this Tony. They should honour the quote they gave you. If the employee did not quote you the correct price then it is up to management to provide better training to their employees.
