We are looking forward to being able to spend more time in Bonaire in the near future. We have calculated the cost of rental vehicles and think that purchasing a used truck may make sense. We have done some preliminary investigation as to cost, storage, insurance, licensing, etc. We would love to hear from anyone who has done the same. We would also appreciate any leads or ideas as to where to look for a used truck that is not an ex-rental (we feel they are probably abused and too risky perhaps??)

Please email me privately or respond to this post if you have ideas , suggestions or information.

Thanks

From my experience of the last year of owning an ex Budget rental Toyota HiLux I can only recommend it. I think the next batch are to be released very soon, so get in soon.

We were on Island from 1/9 to 1/22/11 and noted truck delivery on or about 1/19. There were at least a dozen vehicles off the ship. I do not know who bought them but there may be some used now available.

Something to consider is that your truck will be sitting while you are off the island. The battery life will be significantly shorter and hoses, gaskets and belts will dry out and possibly fail. Of course this will happen when you start using it. There are a limited number of auto repair shops and if they do not have the part you will be stuck waiting.

In the meantime you will need a rental.........
