please .. everyday i see more and more rental pickups with people/children riding in the truck bed.....while it is legal to ride in the bed .. if seated in the bed itself .. it is NOT legal to stand up or sit on the side of the bed ..please! it is a LAW here. and there are very stiff consequences .. please obey bonaire's law before there is a tragedy.

Pietri..You indicate it is not legal to sit on the side of the bed on the trucks and that there are stiff consequences. Every morning when I was down there I saw all the construction workers going to their work sites at 7:30 am & conversely they all left riding the same way at about 5:00PM. I've seen this all over the island. Some trucks easily had 20 workers sitting on the side of the open bed.

So is enforcement just for "rental pickup trucks" as you have titled this or is it also applicable to all the construction workers and the trucks that transport them. Or is there really just no enforcement. Just curious.

oh it is indeed illegal for all .. and there have been big "roundups" on the construction trucks often with a bonus of finding "unpapered workers ".. enforcement is probably often "overlooked" in deference to our island visitors .. who now should know better .. nonetheless -- with the illegal speeding -- i just simply say .. obey the law and be safe ...

While it is illegal, it is also dangerous. One of the island's best artists, Papa Melaan was killed when the truck he was standing up in hit a curb and he was ejected. A word to the wise, don't take a chance and just because you see some idiot standing up in the back of a truck emulating the desert fox, you don't have to do the same thing.
