Hi - we're planning our first trip to Bonaire and I'm doing as much research as I can. I've seen many people recommend using the AMEX Premium Car Rental Protection when renting a car in Bonaire. However, we are not renting directly from a rental car company; we plan to book the Dive and Drive Package from Buddy. The AMEX policy on the website states: "The vehicle must be rented from a Rental Company, which is a commercial rental agency that rents passenger type motor vehicles, but it does not include a company whose primary business is something other than renting cars, such as an auto body shop or a moving van company".

Can I actually get the AMEX CDW when I'm getting the car from Buddy?

Thanks for any info you may have.

Call AMEX directly, the insurance division. Tell them you have a package deal and they should manually charge you for the insurance. I have done this. I just have to warn you, do not call the regular 800 number for AMEX. They have no idea what they are talking about. Call the insurance people and they will take care of you. But be sure to call as there are several versions of the AMEX policy and they will need to access your account to give you the correct information. Have a blast while on island!

With regards to the AMEX policy, I am looking at a 2 month rental of a truck and considering getting the Amex card specifically for this coverage. Amex offers a number of card products, do they all come with this optional coverage?

Brian...call them. I don't believe their insurance will cover two months. I think there is a 45 day limit.

I have the free Blue card and have used it and the insurance to rent vehicles several times.

Jim you might want to check your coverage, my bet is it does not cover trucks overseas.

I have the free blue card also. I added the premium coverage to my card and get charged $24.95 / rental. Not sure of the length of time they'll cover, as we were only there a week. But American Express WILL cover pickup trucks on this policy overseas. Call them to confirm this is still true. We used it May 2008.

Cecil, It did cover pickups when I last checked--but that's several years ago.
