I smashed into another car. Here's what happened. I stopped behind a car at the stop sign coming into town from the airport. The car in front of me started to move and so did I. At that moment I saw someone I knew walking to my left. Instead of watching the car in front of me I looked at my friend, yelled to get her attention, and slammed into the car in front of me. When I looked left and accelerated the car in front of me stopped. I had rented with AMEX but wanted to see what the cost would be for repair. I followed the damaged car to a repair shop. The owner of the auto shop said he could repair the damage for $500. That didn't seem like much to me since in the U.S. it would have cost over $2,000. As we walked away, the driver of the car said that was too high and she would see if she could get it done cheaper. The next day she came to our place with her pastor and a friend and said she found a friend who would do the repairs for $125.00. I handed her the cash and a big "Thank you!" That gracious woman could have taken the $500.00, gotten it fixed for $125.00 and pocketed the change. On the other hand, I could have been leaving that night and left her high and dry. She trusted me and did me right. That experience left a very favorable impression of Bonaire. I was lucky that my pickup suffered only a tiny dent on the bumper

Hello Bill. Although I didn't wreck the car myself someone in my party did while in Bonaire about 10 years ago. The car was a small rental that was put on my Visa card. I wasn't present at the time of the accident and I never saw the actual damage. But I understand that the accident was substantial enough for the police to come out and take a report. Later that afternoon a rep from the rental agency came out and presented a bill for about $2000. This was the first time I had to deal with something like this in a foreign country, so it was pretty nerve racking. I paid the rental agency the amount they asked for, but later on I was reimbursed by my credit card. So I guess it worked out OK for everyone. Still it's not something I want to go through again!

We smashed the front of the car into the wall at the Plaza...1st gear instead of reverse. Did minimal damage...but it was around the 500 range also.

My last trip I accidentally drove my rental car off the dock at Capt Dons. I made a wrong turn and was waving at Stanley and next thing you know im in 10 feet of water...

I managed to drive it about 200 more feet on the water so I ditched it in really deep water. I didnt want to damage the reef within park boundaries. That was a close one though...I was really worried about damaging the reef between the dock and 25 feet..ohh no wait, there is no reef there.

Jason,
There is an old saying on B/T: IF YOU CAN'T ADD ANY CONSTRUCTIVE INFORMATION TO A THREAD, THEN KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!!!

You must be a very lonely man(boy)!

driving off a pier may be a little far fetched...but i do worry when parking at a dive site about where exactly to park in case a tsunami hits while i'm out diving

Ron...simma down now...simma down...if that's the case, then I shouldn't post most of the time. A sense of humor can go along way, as well as tolerance and patience of others. And, I might add, I've never heard that as an old saying on BT...we are pretty much about free speech as we can get (don't get on my arse about you know what topic please).

Anyway, there's room for everyone:-)

Cynde

Thanks for the comments Cynde and recognizing humor (sarcasm) when you see it.

Ron, on route 30 in Ford Heights..just East of 394 there is a place called Atlantis. It is..how do I say...a place to relax and unwind, but has a tropical theme to it. Bring dollar bills.

;)

Ron, it was not a slap. Just a gentle reminder that we do need to be tolerant of others when posting, and be kind with our responses (or as kind as we can possibly be). Most threads have off topic tangents, and jests, jokes, etc. in them...it is the natural flow of even face to face conversation.

Have a good day buddy, and hugs to you:-)

I think I'll give Ron a virtual hug too, just because I can :-)

I've been thinking about this thread today and I think Ron is right. My post to did not add any constructive information at all and I apologize.

I didn't drive my rental car off the pier at Capt. Don's, this was false information. It was at Buddy Dive where this happened. My car rolled down the stairs, onto the dock, and into the water...I however did see Stanley in the distance. The rest of the story remains the same.

Again, my apologies. ;)
