I think I've seen $350 as the usual deductible, but Island Car rentals charged us $565. Any good reason for that? That plus other issues is why we won't be making the "Island mistake" again.

I don't know if you can say "Usual Deductible".
I just looked at Alamo's and it's 572 (1000Naf). AB Car Rentals is 350. Avis is 1000 Naf with LDW. Fox is the same. As a matter of fact, from the few I looked at I'd say 350 is the exception rather than the rule.

I went to the Info Bonaire site and pulled all these up in a matter of minutes.

Perhaps you should do better research next time you rent?

"I'd say 350 is the exception rather than the rule"
Thanks for spotting that. I had just perused several posts and mistakenly got that impression.

"Perhaps you should do better research next time you rent?"

We absolutely will when we have that option (we were on a group trip and, as the previous 10 trips have been trouble free, we figured this was researched well for us). Live and learn.

One reason for this post is to compare notes and discuss why some companies are in the Recommended category and some, like Island, are in the "other" category. More later.

i think ted is the partner of chris who posted in the "trip reports" topic about getting ripped off by island. i doubt either will be back here to back up their claims.

I for one always question the veracity, motives and "agenda" when reading extreme negative postings from first time posters.

And I for one can question your veracity, motives and agenda. I realize you don't have much time to deal with the substance of the post, you probably have to run down to the mailbox to see if Patrick's monthly check is in.

And not that it matters, but it's not my first post. I re-registered after the system somehow lost my original registration (or deleted it after 2 months).

For all of you naysayers please go to my postings under "Trip Reports" for replies to your attacks.

OH! and by the way Ted & I are not "Partners", I met Ted & Patti for the first time on this trip. We just both got scammed at the same time by the same company.
