Hey everyone,

In April/May we'll be on Bonaire with my son, of about 20 months old. Obviously he doesn't dive yet. Does anyone have some good suggestions for some entertainment for my hero (any playgrounds or places to visit with him, other than the beach?)

Thnx,
Michael

He would probably enjoy the Donkey Shelter, and in town you will find a nice, new children's playground.
The water is shallow with a sandy bottom near the little docks at Sorobon It's also a nice place for a picnic and very pretty. If you have the right vehicle, the other side of Lac Cai, at Cai, is lovely too.
And you could show him the flamingoes and pelicans. We have lots of other birds as well, but those two for sure are big enough that he should find them interesting.
Bonaire water is so clear that you can look down and see fish, so he won't need to swim or snorkel to see them
There's a woman here who teaches children to swim. Your visit might be a good time for your son to learn to float and swim so he'll be safe in or near the water. I understand she's excellent, but I have no details.
Anybody else know how to contact her?

Michael, Here is the link to the playground information. It is new, and beautiful. They also sell drinks and snacks to keep you hydrated and full!

Tish, Cynde,

Thank you! Very helpful information.
We have been to Bonaire before, but at those times without our little big man (who was't born yet). The playground looks very nice. We will surely visit it, as well as the other places Tish suggested.

Grtz,
Michael

HI Michael,
Our 2 year old loves the new park Cynde posted the link to above.

We also recently took her on a glass bottom boat ride and she loved it. Felix is the man's name who owns "Bonaire Dream" and you can email him bondream@telbonet.an to find out the schedule as you get closer, if you are interested.

Another thing we like to do is have lunch at Maikey Snack (on the road toward Cai). It is a great local food place. My daughter loves it because there are plenty of goats and chickens to watch in the bush around the place. The food is great and you eat on a large covered patio area with a really nice breeze. Not sure if they have a high chair - if you use one? If you have a travel one - you may want to bring it with you because not every restaurant may have one available.

Sorobon is a great beach for a picnic and to play because the water is very calm and it is nice and sandy. There are also covered areas where we have our lunch.

Another idea is to bring a kite with you because down south - late afternoon when it cools down - is a great place to fly a kite. It is nice and windy.

Just a few of our fun times... :-)

Also, to expand a little on what Rona says, we take our grandchildren when the visit to fisherman's pier, which is actually the area they hold the windsurfing tournaments, just past Jibe City and the Windsurfing place the road ends. It has covered areas where you can set up and picnic. A lot of locals do this on Sundays. Our grandchildren 1 and 3 at the time loved it, the water was dead calm and a soft sandy entrance. Quiet, fun, other children to play with. Oh the park, it's great! Better than some I've seen in the States!

Liz, I walked over there with Ann Phelan when I was there last year as Maggie was there playing and swimming with her friends, it is a great place for a picnic and a quick dip. :-)
