We have always come into the Isl. at a time that easily allowed picking up a rental car at the airport. This trip however, we will be arriving on the 2300 flight from Curacao (at least that is the plan). Tell me please, are there taxis operating at that hour. On my prior trips I have almost always been asleep by then so I have never taken notice. Dumb question maybe, but would be a real pain to have to carry all that dive gear to the hotel; or maybe just could flag down a passing donkey?

The taxi drivers know when the planes are coming in and they will be there. They are there for the 3am KLM flight! The rental places would be open if you booked a truck in advance but it always seems a waste when you will be going straight to sleep.

Hi, Stephen!
Your rental car dealer should be able to provide you with a car at any hour. The airport is open all night, and the rental people I know are willing to be there when you need them, so be sure to ask about this.
If not, you should find a taxi there. If that fails, airport employees will be there when you arrive, so just ask them to phone and get you a taxi.
People are coming and going at the airport all night. You should not find yourself alone.
Almost all the donkeys are safely in the donkey shelter now, so no luck there. lol

Thanks all. Didn't want to rent immediately upon arriving due to (I agree) 'will just be going to sleep', and too, why make Netty's have to come in at that hour if unnecessary. Will get a taxi.

By the way Tish, about the donkeys in the shelter - good thing; The last trip there we were driving out of town and two of them ran headlong into the rental. Startled the hell out of us, damaged the car to the tune of about $600, and unfortunately resulted in the death of one of them. Two males and a 'territory' thing I believe.

Netty runs a one-person operation, but she does indeed come to the airport whenever people arrive and could be going there for somebody else just when you are showing up, so you should ask for the vehicle then if that's when you want it.
And your take on what was happening with the donkeys is probably exactly right. When two males fought, one would throw the other out into the road. Sorry to hear that happened to your rental. Must have been upsetting for you, not to mention for the donkey victim.
Marina has done a wonderful job rounding up most of the donkeys and putting them into the shelter, where she cares for them so well! Thanks also to Pauline, who wrote the grant application which provided the funds to pay for it initially.
Now we must all go to the shelter to contribute to the continued care of the donkeys.

we were driving back from rincon a few years ago and two male donkeys were doing there "territorial" thing. they ran at high speed right to the road and scared the crap out of us....we swerved, they swerved...everybody was safe and the guys in the truck behind us had a good laugh. this happened just before we got to the antriol area.
