Has anyone had any experience with Netty's car rental?

Hi and Welcome to Bonaire Talk Donna,
Until someone chimes in with their experience I suggest that you do a keyword search on "Nettys" and I know you will get much info back.. the search engine on Bonaire talk is at the bottom of each page. "Keyword Search".. and while you are down at the bottom of the page check out the other icons as well. For Instance the Formatting icon will explain to you the process of posting photo.
Good luck and again Welcome

Donna, I rented from Netty this last trip. She is a sweetheart and a real professional. I've rented from others, all with good service as well, but will rent from Netty from now on. She works the business solo and is just a sweetheart. If you make an appointment time to pick up or drop off the vehicle, be there at that time. I didn't realize she was "solo" and thought I could just drop by anytime to pick the truck up (we had already been on island for a week).

I took the early AE flight out, and checked my luggage in, etc. Went back over to wait for her to get there to drop the keys and check the truck (around 6:30 or so) and she was there with a smile, had already looked the truck over.

She has a fleet of about 20 vehicles, so I would make the reservation early if you want a particular type to assure you can get it.

If you email her, she gets back to you promptly as well. Tell her Cynde Lee said hi if you rent from her:-)

Donna:
We have used Netty for many years now, altho we did use other rental car companies. Netty's is, by far, the best on the island. She's a great gal!

We've rented from Netty the past three years. Great Customer service!!

This past year we had a minor problem with our minivan and Netty brought us another vehicle until the minivan was fixed. We had NO down time waiting on repairs. We appreciate the personal service and interest that Netty takes in her business.

We'll continue to rent from Netty!!!

We have rented from Netty a few times. She is one of a kind in the good sense. Words to the wise Don't get her aggravated on your first meeting. You know the saying "first impressions".. It's her impression of you that will dictate what kind of service you get when and if you need it. She stays you go.

Donna, no, she does not take AMEX.

Jane, I had an appointment time to pick up my car at 10AM. Was already on island, and Babs called her for me around noon while I was checking us in at Belmar around noon...she had been at the office at 10 and I was a no show. She was not happy that I was a no show (and I don't blame her one bit) (actually Babs called her while I was checking us in at Belmar). I didn't realize that she was a solo op, and figured she had employees at the office during business hours and picking the truck up later than scheduled would not be a problem. After profusely appologizing when I met her face to face, she was VERY NICE and sweet.

I don't blame her for being aggrivated, I would be as well. That's why I made my comment about picking up your vehicle at the time you schedule to pick it up. If you are going to be late, do the courtesy and have her number with you and call her to reschedule. She runs the business by herself and so is obviously very busy, and sitting in the office waiting for a no show wastes her time.

I'm sure my first impression wasn't good at all, but after meeting her face to face and again, apologizing profusely for my blunder and wasting her time, all was good. BTW, she did meet me with a smile when I showed up to pick up the truck. I even drove her home and we had a nice chat. I give her kudos and a lot of credit for doing the job she does and running a great operation:-)

renting vehicles from Nettys is always a positive experience...she is very friendly and has great prices and service ..has always helped us with the certain kind of minivan we like for diving, and is always available if you have a problem...I think many people who return to the island rent from Netty again and again.....Hi to Netty

Just to clarify, I didn't have a negative experience at all with her. She has some of the best prices (when Everts didn't have a truck I checked prices from places I'd rented before...jaw dropped), then decided to check Netty's price...I just want folks to know to give her the courtesy to show at your scheduled time of pick up, which with the bigger companies doesn't matter if you are later or earlier because they have folks there all day...;-)

Which is one of the reasons she's able to keep costs down! So if everyone stopped showing up when they said they would... she'd have to hire someone else (or a few someone else's)... and the prices would go up. :-)

Absolutely Kelly:-) When you make your car rental reservation anywhere, they have the "pick up time and drop off time" that you enter into their system....didn't know it was critical in this case...ooppy! She is a sweetheart that's for sure:-) She has "the club" for all her vehicles even to help deter theft:-) I hadn't seen one of those in years (since my ex had our oldsmobile cutlass supreme stolen TWICE and we bought one for it). Plus, you get the vehicle with a 1/4 tank of gas, and return it with a 1/4 tank of gas. It helps prevent gas theft with her vehicles when they are on the lot:-) Smart gal she is ;-)

i guess all the companies want to know if you're going to be delayed much. a year or two ago we were a day late getting to bonaire...spent a night in miami instead. when we went to get our truck, they weren't ready for us and had to call the car wash to get a truck delivered to the airport. i couldn't have called anyway since i didn't have their phone number and my cell phone doesn't work for international calls. live and learn.

Hi there!
I got my car from her. I booked a minivan and as they were all rented when I arrived I got a pickup instead. Which is great. But I found this person sooo unfriendly that I wouldn't go back to her! She's been kind of friendly when she checked back the car and she could see that everything was fine.... She was one of the first person I saw when arriving and she didn't give me a good feeling....

Veronique, Thanks for clarifying, it shows us that first impressions works BOTH ways. Sorry about your experience. I actually now own my own truck, so do not rent anymore when going to Bonaire, so I am not for or against anyone here, just giving MHO. I have known Netty for quite a while and she is really a nice person, she must have been having a bad day. It happens, sorry it happened to you, Veronique.

Veronique, thanks. I agree with Debbie, she must have been having a really bad day...I am sorry you didn't have a good experience with her:-( I know that the main road that they have all torn up is right NEXT to her house, and she has to go the back way to get in and out...maybe she was irritated at the construction (I would be).

Help if you can !
I emailed Netty from her website. Regarding my needs for 2 trk rentals. I then received a automatic email back with all the info that I wrote? Is this a confirmation that what I want is booked ?
Thanks

Bev, don't know. I'd email her through welcome@NettysCarRental.com and confirm with her that the reservation went through. I remember getting an email that I was confirmed, I emailed her back and thanked her, and she emailed in kind. Remember, she is a one woman operation so be there at the time you have reserved the car for pick up and drop off (of course if your plane is late, she will know that to adjust the time)

Netty does not know if planes are late unless you contact her and tell her.
The e-mail address I have for her is info@nettyscarrental.com
You might try writing to both addresses.

Hmm...Tish, the only address on her website I found was the welcome one...I figured if she had someone coming in on AE arriving at 8, and the plane was late, she would be able to find out (as she would be at the airport) already waiting. It would be impossible for me, or possibly others to contact her if their plane is late arriving on Bonaire as they will be in transit...my cell won't work calling to or out of Bon, so I wouldn't even be able to call from SJ...just thoughts to ponder:-)

I guess I was primarily thinking of the "drop off" time, as she will be there waiting at the time you designate to drop the vehicle off on your departure:-)

I have just booked a truck with her and got the automated reply. As I have booked with her a lot of times before I checked with her and it is meant to be confirmation. However she will confirm again if you e mail her. She's a sweetie and does try to follow the planes, most of the island knows when the planes are late in!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Tish (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #658) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 3:14 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

The e-mail address which I supplied is the one I use to keep in touch with her locally. She's a friend. Maybe she has recently changed it, or maybe she has two e-mail addresses.
She often complains about not knowing when planes are late. She has no phone number to call to find out if planes are on time (meaning the airlines don't have somebody answering phones), and she cannot leave her little office to go over and try to find out what's going on if somebody who has reserved a car does not show up. Since she's a one-person business, she has nobody to leave in the office waiting for customers. So she just sits there and sits there and hopes the customer will eventually arrive. She loses a lot of sleep this way on night arrivals which are late or for which customers have missed their connections.
It is one thing to sit in an office and believe you have not seen a plane land and quite another to receive warning so that you can catch up on your sleep for a couple of hours. She works around the clock. I stayed with Nettie twice and was shocked at the hours she must work. So have a heart and communicate any big change in your arrival time, please.
If you are going to be late or miss a connection, try to use a pay phone.
