Hi - We have decided on Belmar and don't dive but considering their car rental package. It just doesn't seem much different than what AB Rental charges. My main question involves insurance. My personal policy will not cover us on Bonaire. I am assuming that I then should take the FULL insurance. I think this includes the CDW?? This is $19 per day. Am I right on this. It's a little confusing. I don't have American Express.

Thanks for any clarification, sue

Susan, Get a blue Card AMEX with no fee and take out the special CDW wavier and it will cost you $19.95 for the whole trip instead of a daily fee. There is no deductable with AMEX and it covers theft in the truck as well.. Ron

Sue: You are correct on the $19.00 per day. $11.00 per day for insurance and $8.00 per day to cover vandalism. Lets say you paid the full $19.00 per day and damaged the vehicle. You would be required to pay the deductible out of pocket which I believe is $169.00 with AB (the deductible should be on their website) and the insurance would take care of the rest. This happened to me once. I rented a truck from Budget on Bonaire, paid the insurance, damaged the truck and had to pay a $300.00 deductible; the insurance covered the rest. If you turned down the $19.00 per day insurance, you would be liable for all costs not just the deductible should you damage the vehicle. What I think Ron is referring to above is a truck rental program that AMEX has with their no fee Blue Card. It costs $19.00 per rental. This is what I used to insure my rental truck when I turned down AB's insurance as part of my Belmar package. Are you renting a car or a truck? If you are renting a truck, the best way to go is the AMEX Blue Card as Ron stated above and turn down the insurance. If you don't have or don't get the AMEX Blue Card, I would plan on paying the $19.00 per day. Does your credit card insure cars outside the US? If so, I'd use that and turn down AB's insurance; otherwise, I'd pay the $19.00 per day assuming it is a car you are renting.

visa and master card, gold level and above, cover car (not truck) rental insurance anywhere in the world with a few exceptions (bonaire is not an exception). only amex will cover insurance on a truck as far as i know.

We are from the UK and have Amex Blue Card. We are going to hire a truck in November and I just called Amex to find out about the $19.00 insurance for Cards issued in the UK. Alas, as is usually the case for us, we are not offered this particular benefit so it looks like we will be utilising the $19.00 a day with AB ----- unless anyone else knows different? The guy I spoke with at Amex didn't seem to have a clue what I was talking about.
Any UK residents used this insurance before on Bonaire?
J

Here is a cut and paste of the reply I got from Amex about the insurance for a truck rental while on Bonaire. Once you sign up for this, it is charged to your Amex card every time you use it to rent a vehicle. There is a method to decline the insurance; I only use it on Bonaire so I don't remember how!!
