This September will be our first trip to Bonaire. I have learned a lot reading the various posts. While we do plan to spend much of the time snorkeling and relaxing on the beach, I was wondering what on land activities there were to do and see. We will have a rental car to get around. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Judy -

Try this link as a start: http://www.infobonaire.com/activities.html.

We, too, are snokelers and we are so glad to hear that you are planning to spend a portion of your time topside. You will be quite surprised at how much there is to do, see, learn, experience and enjoy above the water on what, at first glance, appears to be a burned up desert island (I can say that because I grew up in a similar environment).

In September the breeze tends to die a bit. It can be really hot. Bring lots of sunscreen and protective clothing, especially while snorkeling.

And be sure you have protective footwear to get into the ocean. Aside from a resort ladder or boat, entry is over very rough limestone and coral.

One other word of caution: be prepared to make your return reservations!

Bon bini na Bonaire.

Will you have a rental vehicle? You'll be amazed how much there is to see driving around the island. And plan to spend a least a half day at Washington park. The museum, the drive, the snorkelling, the hike up Brandaris, (the rough roads!). I've been visiting Bonaire over 25 years (boy do I feel old now!) but still find unusual discoveries. Just check your spare tire and pack extra cold water before starting out!

Thanks Liz and everyone else for the information. I am so excited about this trip. I can't concentrate at work anymore and we still have 5 months to go.
