Hi Kelly,

I was looking into that too, since I have a daughter, 17 y.o. and was told that 25 is the age at most rental agencies. And some of them charge an extra $3 per day for young drivers. Ha! How about that? She was very disappointed, I have heard that a few may at 23, but not 100% sure.

Her friend and her went to the Plaza for BBQ nite and beach volley ball. I dropped them off and went to Gibbi's. When I came back, she proudly informed me that you only have to be 16 to drink there! Now, I don't really know, but they did get served there a couple of loaded Pina Coladas! Made their nite, and mother a little more aware for sure. Hope that helps you out a little. I would call your choice of rental agencies and inquire for the age. This is only what I know when I went in February, 20005.

Debbie

I'm thinking of bringing my daughter for her graduation present next year. She'll be 18... now that I think about it, I think Cynde told me that the drinking age is 18. If she could drive too that would be helpful. (again, NOT at the same time she is drinking.. I have to clarify that)

I will inquire closer to the date. Thanks!

It is unlikely that any agency will rent a car to anyone under 23. The drinking age is 16 but has been unofficially "changed" to 18. Will try to get a confirmation from government re age....

Kelly, we were told that it had indeed been changed to 18. Sarah of course, had to have a drink with every meal, just because "she was legal"...Dylon ordered a glass of wine with dinner one night, they didn't even blink and brought it to him (he's 16...we are bad parents...bad parents...)...trying to teach them to "drink responsibly"...that and not letting them go into town alone and hang out...(good parents...good parents)...

When I was there I was 16, and they automatically served me loaded drinks. But then again, I look a lot older than I really am.

Cynde- I don't think that you are a bad parent. We are going to Italy in June and I was teasing both my kids (18 and 14) that they could have a glass of wine and they both made gagging noises. Oh well, more for me!

Italy is 16 years old. and i think it also shows driving ages too. i hope this is helpful..

oh...the topic of the thread was car rental/alcohol. someone finally figured out that you don't buy beer, you only rent it.
