Hi all! Making our reservations and it looks like it's a national holiday. Capriccio is closed. Does anyone know how difficult it will be to find open restaurants? Thanks in advance for your replies (running our of time!) :)

All of the resort restuarants will be open. They can't close down when paying guests need a place to eat...

Thanks so much Ron. So, we're foodies. Which hotel would you recommend? Would Patagonia at Harbour Village be open?

i wouldn't be to sure that many are going to be open outside of the hotels .. it is a legal holiday as well as the 1st. Many establishments that ignored the closing law were closed by the police over the Easter holiday.

Petri -

Apparently they were closed because you apparently need a special permit to be open on certain holidays, and the places that the police visited apparently didn't have the permit to be open on the holidays.

Lucky for us the police have time to close those offending restaurants.

Bonaire can be so strange sometimes.

Here's a list of restaurants that are probably open on that Saturday based on my experience. You should call or email them first to be sure. You can find contact info for all of these in other places under this topic.

- Bobbyjeans (BBQ ribs)
- Wil's (fine dining)
- Bistro di Paris
- Pasa Bon Pizza (maybe)

Thanks so much for the list. An FYI, I think Wil's may be closed from from April 27 - May 7. I will check Bistro though. YUM!

Saturday's a day to go local; Rincon will have food booths all over, some Chinese restaurants may be open, or KFC, (we're open every day), or go resort. I wouldn't be surprised to see many free-standing/family-run restaurants closed both Sat & Sun, as they are both holidays.

For anyone else who was wondering, I found this in the Bonaire Insider from April 2008:
"April 30, is a traditional holiday within the Dutch kingdom, when everyone celebrates the Queen’s birthday. The village of Rincon on Bonaire goes one step further, offering Dia di Rincon, a street fair of gigantic proportions, offering food, drink, music, dancing, traditional costumes, and other festivities.
Starting early in the morning and continuing all day and into the wee hours, visitors will find a cornucopia of offerings showcasing Bonaire’s unique history and culture. There are stalls offering food, drinks, and things to buy, and there are several stages where folkloric dance groups will perform during the day and live bands take over at night. Simply meandering down Rincon’s main street will bring any visitor close to beautifully costumed dancers, singers, and other well known Rincon inhabitants."
