Had some great meals through the years here too. Anybody eat here lately? Quick story - about 5 years ago we ate a late dinner there, and were leaving around closing time. About a quarter mile on the way back to Playa, the tire goes flat on the rental. No lights on the road, I'm thinking we are totally screwed. Especially since they were closing the restaurant up when we left, and now we are a quarter mile away. I limped back to Kon Tiki praying there would be someone there with advice. It's definitely after 10pm.

We went in and explained the problem to the cook as he was locking the place up. Without a word he brought out a couple of tools and went to work on the car, changing the tire. I tried to pay him but he just shook his head and smiled.

Absolutely amazing. I tell this story to people who ask about Bonaire to give an example of the warmth and kindness of people you find on the island, and why we have been there over 15 times and will continue. It also shows how useless I am with tools.

But I digress. Sorry for the rambling. Would love to go back to Kon Tiki on our March trip.
C.

Talking about no lights on the road reminded me of how it looked like drag-racing central on the road by there. Skid-marks/burn-outs all over the place. Do they drag at night out there? Man, that would have to be some scary driving. Sorry to side-track the discussion, I have no info on their food.

We celebrated my Dad's 65th birthday there. I ordered a birthday cake before hand which was presented after the most excellent dinner.

When I got the bill, there was no mention of the cake. I pointed it out to Martin (the owner) he said that the cake was on them. What a great gesture!

Kon Tiki was always a great favourite of ours. The owners Martin & Miriam and all of their staff have always been great. We loved nothing more than taking a long lunch and enjoying the view.

We love the place for lunch, wonderful breeze and view of the bay. Susan usually gets the fish burger and I get the Dutch Kibbling, excellent! They also are one of the few places I have seen on island that have a vegetarian and soup special every day.

We always have at least one lunch at the Kon-Tiki and have never been disappointed. Their fish sandwich is the best I have ever eaten anywhere.

Because in weeks past there have been somewhat heated discussions on other BT threads about *restaurant* fish vs *scuba-diving* fish.

Seems a lot of folks would rather see a large grouper at 40 feet on the reef rather than on their dinner plate.

Myself, I can go either way but I do try to avoid making friends with my food before preparing to eat it...

Tom...Simply put, the reason is that Grouper is an endangered species; And frankly it belongs on the reef and not on a dinner plate. Additionally it's the only species at least that I'm aware of, where the larger specimens can ingest Lionfish. Personally I think we need all the help we can on that issue.
Other pelagic fish are fine to consume; ie Jack, cuda; wahoo, blue runner etc etc.

KonTiki is on our favorite list! Martin & Miriam are the best. The entire staff are just a pleasure to be around, so friendly & helpful. I'm with you Pat, the Dutch Kibbling is to die for! The salads are excellent, the burger is HUGE, soups are wonderful.......Chef Otto is the best! Take all that & add a wonderful view of the bay and constant breeze.............what more could you ask for?????
