3 of us newbies will be venturing on Saturday to Bonaire for the first time and would like to know what the best restaurants on the island are. We are not concerned about cost, more about quality of food. Please advise! (we are huge foodies)

Bobbejans is a must, even if it is only for the ribs sitting in the Backyard people watching. Bamboo is possibly my favourite. I have heard that the Yacht Club Apartments Restaurant is very good, but I did not make it there on my last visit. Oh! and Pasa bon Pizza is very lovely Bonaire.

Brenda.. Welcome to BT!! As you might have read, there are many great restaurants on the island. However if you're looking for Italian cuisine, I can heartily recommend Capriccio's. I've traveled throughout Italy, from the northern border with Switzerland all the way down to Sicily. Amazing the food they can produce from a restaurant located on an arid Caribbean island.

Welcome Brenda.

I go along with Vince on Cap's. Great food, outstanding wine list. Inside table, ac is good!

Mona Lisa, outside table, Friday night music.

Bambou...table on the side street, nice breeze:-)

Pasa Bon Pizza - Great Pizza, amazing veggie lasagna and great people.

Cappricio - It really is a little piece of Italy in the Caribbean. Great homemade food.

Mona Lisa - Consistently good.

Mi Banana - Try the soup of the day, especially the fish soup. Amazing.

Bisto de Paris - Great french onion soup. A meal in it's self!

Don't forget to try some of the snacky bars of the beaten track.

The Peking on Kaya Korona has great garlic ribs.

Harbour City Bar & Restaurant also on Kaya Korona. Try the sweet & sour and be prepared for huge portions.

The Surinam Bar Restaurant on Kaya Avelino J Cecilia 31 does great Roti.

Divi Divi, Kaya Dr Jose G.Hernades 26 is only open during the day. It has a great local atmosphere.

Kos Bon So, Rincon. Another great local place with food mainly from the grill. The owners are friendly and the beer is cold. Rincon is also a great source of homemade Johnny Cakes.

Bon Appetite!

Vincenzo, always the consummate Italian. :-)
I absolutely agree with Vince. If you happen to go to Cappriccio, try the Belgian endive ap with shrimp. Good God. If you like Osso Bucco, then you are also at the right place.

If you have never had Indonesian, try Warrung Louise. I would highly recommend the Rijstaffel (Rice Table) (sp) Someone Dutch, is that correct?

And please do not forget my good friends, and best restauranteurs on the island, IMHO, the Palaicos family at Patagonia. Do not go there if you are not hungry.

Hi Brenda-
Definitely hit Capriccio’s, yummy Italian. Pasa Bon Pizza is good too. My wife and I enjoyed Paradise Moon (Tex-Mex) located in the Harbour Village Resort north of town.

Warrung Louise had excellent Rijstaffel, but unfortunately, they are no longer in business.

Brenda, we really like Bistro de Paris. If you like good French food, great service, and huge portions it is a must. There are both inside and outside tables so call for reservation if you want to sit inside in a/c.

Jim ~ we sure had a GREAT dinner at Warung Louise didn't we?? So very sorry to see it go!

Can't go wrong with Bistro de Paris and Patagonia. I am a huge carnivore, and at Patagonia I got the filet and shrimp, and it lasted me 2 entire dinners. It was perfect.

Argentenian Beef for President !

1.Paypaya Moon
2. Mi Banana
3. El Fogon
4. Pas Bon Pisa
5 Mona Lisa
6. It rains Fishes

Give Richards a wide berth...over rated over expensive. Poor service.

Mona Lisa a little pricey, always busy but great food.

Our fave is Paypaya Moon right by Harbour Village.

Eating out is not cheap(even compared to uk)but you are on a island and mostly the food is very good.

Yes, but some of those places (El Fogon, Maiky Snack) are not so easy for newbies to find on a first visit.

It would be nice if BT or related website had a good *detailed* map that we could keep up to date with precise locations of important establishments.
Google Map is doing pretty well with this for places in the US; I imagine they'll get to doing Bonaire by 2020 or so...

My third time on Bonaire coming up on January 30 - can hardly wait! I recommend Plazita Limena - on the main street - fantastic food, especially shrimps and steaks.

These are the places we ate at in December:

Pasa Bon Pizza - Would eat there every day if I had to and didn't need variety. Just plan on about 45 minutes for your pizza to get made. We just stopped by to order it on our way to drop off tanks and then changed and returned. Worked well.

Casablanca - Not a real good experience. Wife had the sate (shishkebob) and said it was ok.

Unbelievable - Outstanding. Highly recommend.

Patagonia - 2nd best steak I've ever eaten. Outstanding. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Sunset (Sand Dollar House Restaurant) - Very nice and good food. Ate there twice. Not quite as good as previous two but definitely a nice evening. Need to stop by and get a reservation though. Recommend. (Also hear they make a great burger for lunch but never got there for that.)

The other place we ate was just some burgers at Lover's Ice Cream shop. Not the best burger ever but it was good and had all the veggie toppings you could want. Nice if you want to go informal and want to give the ol' cash a rest.

Hope this helps.

e.

Is it possible to publish a personalized version (or versions) of some Bonaire Google Earth images that has various attractions on Bonaire "pushpinned?"

There could be a restaurant map, a dive site turnoff map (for those unmarked sites), a grocery store/gas station/other convenience map, etc.

This could be a living work that would allow Bonairians to add and delete things as the island changes.

I'm just not smart enough to know how to do this, if it is even possible.

e.

I would add Plazita Lemena to the list, if they are still there. I hope so, we will be returning in a few weeks, and it's on my list! We had several great meals there last year.
