First off - we NEVER do recommendations for BT :-)
But we just discovered a new place to add into our personal Bonaire Dining Guide. We stopped by for lunch at the Wind & Surf Beach Hut one afternoon recently and had the best burgers I've ever tasted on Bonn.....the Beach Hut burger. , Big patty, pineapple, BBQ sauce and Edam cheese served with a HUGE bowl of pomme frites. No need for dessert here! Afterwards, the manager(?) Chris stopped by for a chat & to see how we liked them. Since we were all stuffed to the gills, we thanked him profusely. He's a diving affectionado as well and knows the reef. Then he casually asked if we liked fresh fish and mentioned his Sunday Fish Night. We decided to try it....and Chris can certainly cook a mean Dorado too (& the freshest salad on the island).
When you get a craving for burgers & windsurfing - give the WSBH a try, bet you will agree....and tell Chris the crew from Texas said "Hello"

Monty, they do have the best burgers don't they:-) I make it to the place at least once a trip for a burger and fries, and dig my feet in the sand and watch the windsurfers:-)

I stopped by there twice for rum and coke lite during my visit last week. Jenny the bartender took good care of us and the place has really been spiffed up. New owners I believe (could be Chris?) I didn't eat there , but will do so next trip. Be advised that they close fairly early most nights (6:30 I think). Monty I am from Texas too! (But I don't dive there!!!!)

In Feb. we ate lunch there twice. Great salads and so entertaining to watch the windsurfers.

Help me out.....

Is this the one at Jibe City or right next to it?

We ate at the on next to Jibe City and thought the burgers were horrible. They were almost not edible. They were more like a meatloaf. This is the restaurant where all the tables are in the sand. We had a great Fruit Smoothie at Jibe City and this restaurant which was the one on a raised platform looked a lot better.

The Beach Hut is run by Maarten ( the tall guy, and when I say tall, I mean it!) and Chris... they don't only have the best burgers there, their spare ribs are phenomenal... you can't copy them! Chris is the former head chef from Plaza Resort and knows for sure what he is doing and cooking!
I am on the island since almost 4 years now, but since the Beach Hut is open I spent almost all my days off to have lunch there and enjoy the atmosphere. "Majo", Jenny and all the others behind the bar are always friendly, funny and do a great job. Its always nice to come back there... so don't miss it and pass by at the Beach Hut to confirm what I just wrote!

Jason, I recall a time when the burgers at Sorobon Beach Hut where overpriced and absolutely gross. Experienced it myself, even the ketchup was dead cheap and disgusting, I think it had a british owner back then around 1 1/2 or 2 years ago, as much as I heard she got kicked off the premise from Elvis (Sorobon Windsurf Place owner)....... But this is BEFORE Chris the new owner took over and spun things around. Chris, before taking over the Beach Hut was long time Chef at plaza, but do not remember with venue of Plaza that was.
Every day Maarten or Chris come up with a new special, fresh soup, fresh salad, fish grilled to perfection, so I agree with Tommy here and Monty.......
So either Jason you have missed out on something the last 2 years or we do differ in tastes.

@Jason: It is the place next door to Jibe City (so it is on the premises of the Bonaire Windsurf Place)

We ate there this past May. Me and my wife love burgers and this was hands down the worst "burger" if you could call it that we have ever had. One person in our party had the satay (sp) chicken and it was good. I am not sure what went wrong that day. We thought that this must be how they make burgers in Holland. It had been mixed with what appeared to be bread and had a worchester sauce taste to it but much worse. In comparison Lions Den had great burgers and a much better price. Isn't it amazing how one person can say they have great food then another say the same place is the worst they ever had...weird. Has to be more than just differences in taste. I am not a picky eater by any stretch of the imagination. If these burgers were even average I wouldn’t post a negative comment about there restaurant.

Thanks for the info but I wont be eating their again =)

no worries, not everyone is up for the classic taste of burgers.
German immigrants in England invented the burger in the early 1800, and the Brits love Worcestershire Sauce to add on their meat. Toasted bread or bread is also the classic approach to burgers, yumm, sounds like haute cuisine in burger world to me! Chris! a Burger please!

Seriously? The Windsurf Place is more expensive than Lion's Den? That's sad to hear. Does anyone have a menu from the Windsurf Place, or do they write it on a chalk board like Jibe City?

Hi Silvia! I would love to meet, but I won't be back until next May. :-( I was questioning Jason's post. He said Lion's Den had better burgers and better prices.

@tink88...bas, you tweet?

I still stand by the fact that Windsurf Place has the best burgers, better than Lions Den IMHO...I don't remember what I paid, but it's where I go for a burger when on island...
i can smell the salt air from here

you go girls! debbie and tink, there is no issue of burgers being pricier than burgers being of Lions Den! However my fare burger angels, how would you love your burgers, traditionally, the way, we do burgers in europe or how we call it official to call it an american burger; ah! stupid me! it is called officially in the united states a burger in the bun!, however for tribs and tink i am open for all kinds of different kinds of food and drinks, ladies, thats an offer, no invititation, however i might reconsider, by the very moment i am humbled to meet you!
regards silvie

Silvia, I put worcestershire sauce in my homemade burgers here in the states. No bread, but lots of other spices too. If you add bread to it, it is more like a meatloaf or meatball, not a burger. But will check it out, who knows, willing to give it a try.

I just wanted to let incoming folks (and BTers) know that we had a GREAT time at WSBH and that Chris and his partner do lunch and dinner especially well (loved the fish)....in addition to the "floor show" In the (very short) five years I've been coming to Bonaire...I rate his place highly!

No intent to denegrate any other establishment plz!
