We returned last night from a week in Bonaire and had a chance to visit Corinna and Hagen as they were completing all the final details associated with opening their new restaurant, Cactus Blue (in the old Casablanca building). It looks great! The menu is interesting, the decor is well done, there is a private party room, there will be draft beer in pitchers...and they look like they are working hard but having a lot of fun doing it.
Corinna and hagen
Grand opening is Thursday...we were sorry to miss it, but look forward to reports from everyone.

- Mel

Ok..I'm interested. What's on the menu? Do you know their hours? Inquiring minds want to know, especially ones that are trying to hit new restaurants on their next trip to Bon.

Jeanine, here is their website: http://www.infobonaire.com/cactusblue/ It is not all up and running yet, still under construction so to speak. LOL! I will most definitely be trying this place out when I am on Bonaire in February. Will post a thread on how it was for you and anyone else who may be interested.

Hi Bev, They are if memory serves me correctly going to be serving local, Caribbean and American foods. I am arriving the same day as you! Maybe we are on the same flight. I am flying in on American. I will be a Gibi's either on the 21 or 28th, not sure yet or both.

Thanks for the link Debbie! Their humor is pretty funny "somewhere in the Dutch Caribbean." We are going to check it out in May, so looking forward to any reports.

Jeanine:
I hope this is not too much information! They gave me a copy of their draft menu...I except the final will look pretty much like this.

Cactus Blue menu

I'll probably try the Ceviche, the Jambalaya Pasta, and the Creme Brulee on my first visit. Or maybe the Kabritu Stoba....no, the Mahi-Mahi. Hmmm, it's going to be a hard decision...

hopefully there will be a site for them that we are able to go to and see and drool over the wonderful things they are going to have. I hope there will be a great deal of fish dishes. Is it going to have a Mexican tilt?
Please anyone who has been there leave a message!!!
It would be great to have another venue of food for the palate Am very much looking forward to the experience..

By the way, is the place across from the fruit market that was being built last year open Is that Salsa???? How is the food?

Yes, you are probably thinking of Salsa.
Look for the thread about it.

On Wednesday night they had a happy hour only opening from 6-7pm. Corinna and Hagen were beaming and the place was packed with friends and well wishers. Of course their boys were there helping out and doing a great job. Moogie was playing.

Really nice decor - deep rich colors, wrought iron and cushioned chairs, a couple really spectacular wood benches. You would never recognize it as either of the past two restaurants that had been in that spot. Not to say those were bad but just very different from Cactus Blue. And they have two inside rooms - one set up banquet style which can hold over 20 people.

Yana said the BBQ baby back rib was yummy. Yana and I checked out the menu. Lots of fun sounding mixed drinks for adults, smoothies and such for the non-drinker as well. Nice well-rounded menu. Lots of safe choices for kids as well. A good selection of desserts. We reported back to my picky eater Bas and he wants to go. We reported back via email to the more adventurous Jake and he wants to go too.

Linda, Thanks for the report! Sounds great! Good hearing from someone who usually has kids with them when dining. I have Brandon, age 11, who will glad to hear this news as well. Now, I can't wait to try it out in a few weeks! :-)

Allan, it's next to the new casablanca building... Sorry, couldn't resist.

It's located on the right hand side of the BLVD J.A. Abrahams if you go from the Kaya grandi towards Divi. It's about 300 to 500 meters from the Post office.

We had an excellent meal there ....... fish with a lime base sauce, chicken wings, and chocolate cake for dessert. Had a great chat with Corinna and we were flabbergasted to hear that they had only been open for 4 days! The staff were very efficient. My husband works for a design studio and loved their logo so much that he bought a T-shirt ... check them out, designed by Corinna & Hagan, very unique!! Meal was inexpensive.
