Chet, is this a firm date? As you can see, there are a bunch of us coming in on that date that would like to attend. Is Sunday a possible option? If not, maybe we can plan something else during our stay. After the 8" snowfall yesterday and snow up to our kitchen window, I am ready for Bonaire.

Corney Ann,
I also noticed the arrival of several on Saturday, but Jake & Linda were not available for Sunday. Also, remember there's the weekly Tuesday evenings at Gibi's for meeting people.

Will Gibi's be open on March 4 as that is the last night of Carnival?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Josie (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #744) on Thursday, February 6, 2003 - 2:10 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

It's always rough picking a date, when you know some people can make it and others can't.

I'll check with Gibi today and make sure he'll be open on March 4. If not, we'll find somewhere else for the Tuesday night gettogether!

Also, I promised Jake and Linda that we'll make it easy on them to host the BBQ, so we have to get a "clean-up" crew so they aren't left to deal with our detrius (isn't that a great word!)

We've been on Bonaire a week now, I think I'm going to start an on-going trip report, because I'll forget it before I get back. The folks at Bonaire Town Homes are very gracious about my using the computer while I'm here, so it makes it very simple.

See you soon...
Josie

Hi everyone,
The wedding date for Melissa & I has changed: Instead of 3/3, it is now 3/4 due to Carnival (a Nat'l holiday on the island) which is a vacation day for the Justice of the Peace. (Where?) is still a question we're waiting for. Please stand by.......

Chet .... so I guess I am not the only one stressing about what to bring for the pot luck! I know that feeling is probably only one I have here at home and once I hit "island time" it won't even be an issue. Tom Cousino did tell me it was my responsibility to bring Vermont Cheddar....hmmmmm.

Oh, yes, Susan --- Vermont Cheddar would be great!! I too have NO IDEA what to bring.

I did check with Gibi last night --- and he is open on March 4, the last day of the Karvinaal, so no problem with the Tuesday BT dinner at 7 pm. We had 8 for dinner, two just for drinks and four kids and their "minder" on Tuesday. Such fun. Hope to see lots of you on March 4, and lots of you on March 1 for the BBQ.

Mary Lou,
Here is a post of Jake's from a couple weeks ago:

"Gibi's is a local eatery with outdoor seating on folding chairs, at folding tables, under great big sprawling trees.
Great food and great prices (dinner with a couple of drinks is usually about $10-12 including a tip should you choose to leave one). They usually have about a dozen items on the menu, ranging from several different kinds of stew, fried & roasted chicken, fried fish steaks with a great creole sauce, and other local specialties.
If you need directions you can call Gibi's when on-island - 567-0655. If you ask for directions from a local, and they don't know Gibi's for some reason, ask them for directions to China Nobo, which is across the street.
We'll be at Gibi's the next 4 Tuesday nights ourselves. Probably getting there at about 6:30pm or so (except for the 11th when we're going to Bongo's first for Tom Cousino's shindig)."

Hope to see you there on March 4th.
Chet

There are six coming down in our group on Feb 28. I would like to make the party on the 1st and will try to enlist my fellow travelers. I will try to bring a New Orleans King Cake, a Mardi Gras tradition in these parts. (if it survives the trip down.) Where is the Richter’s place located? How far is it from the Divi? Looking forward to it. RustyB. from Baton Rouge.

Rusty ... looking forward to meeting you at the barbecue and to the Mardi Gras cake. I will leave the directions to Jake and Linda's to someone else as I can get there but would not be good on the directions without being in the truck with you as I don't know street names etc. Not far from Divi since not much is far on the island. Divi is at the south end of town, Richter's on the north.

Chet,
Melissa & I are supposed to be married on Harbour View Beach @ sunset on the 4th of March. The other beach the wedding planner had included was "Donkey Beach" as an option. Melissa was a little hesitant on that one due to the name!
Thanks for all the work you've done posting the past few weeks!

Chet,
Since this is our first visit to Bonaire, I may not qualify for giving directions. I believe, however, according to the maps that I've looked at, the Harbour Village Beach Resort is is along the same coast as the rest of the hotels & dive operators. It appears that it is North of the town and the majority of the other hotels/villas. It is also the most expensive resort that I have come across when researching the island.
Since the majority of the folks you have listed will be at the Richter's on 3/1, we will certainly stop in and mingle and have the DEFINITE location for the ceremony (Provided we find the Richter's home!). Perhaps we can get it slated for an earlier time so we can eat at a reasonable time as well.
Thanks again for the terrific job and look forward to meeting you and the other BTer's.
Hill & Melissa

Chet et al,
Melissa & I are really looking forward to our honeymoon/vacation on Bonaire. We have, unfortunately, been running into ongoing difficulty with the wedding planner from there. 3 times the location & time for the ceremony have changed. Now we are told that the Harbor Village Resort will not be available and she will let us know of another location/time by 2/24 or 2/25. Great. We fly down very early on the 26th.
I think it's best if we just show up at the Richters (with plenty of goodies for the BBQ/Dive) and announce to all those interested in attending the (exact?) time & place.
How about in front of the Street Cam?
Does anyone have any suggestions for a good, preferably a beach, location? We're getting a bit fatigued by the ambiguity of the planner, yet, realize, one way or another, WE ARE GETTIN' HITCHED DOWN THERE!
Hill & Melissa

Eden Beach Resort (soft sandy beach with palm trees) located just north of Harbour Village. Nice palmfrond-topped beach bar. I don't know if they having weddings there but they might consider it.

Donkey beach has very picturesque divi trees, a little more rugged looking. It is right near the airport so depending on the timing it might be loud if there are any landings or take offs. The wedding photos I've seen taken at Donkey beach have been quite beautiful.

Josie,
Really looking forward to meeting you and everyone else too! I see you're from Rochester, home of the "Lake Effect" snow. I'll bet you can't wait to get down there after this cold winter we've been having, eh?
It looks as though another snow storm will hit the Northeast 2/28 into 3/1-3/2. As much as I like skiing, I do not enjoy all this shoveling and pushing my car out of snow banks. I'm leaving the shovel in my back seat so "we" can dig ourselves out upon our return (I'm not sure if Melissa wants to be considered a "we" when it comes to shoveling!)
Our flight leaves JFK @8:00AM on Wednesday. I am presently fighting a nasty head cold. Nothing worse than not being able to "clear" when diving. I may be stuck on the surface! Yikes! Maybe I shouldn't worry....those 85 degree temps should dry out what's left of this cold.
Is there a sign or something of note for the location of the "street cam"? Is that in front of the Richter's home?
Is it in town or near where we're staying (Divi)?
My apologies for being so long winded here. It's our 1st trip. We're stoked!
See everyone on Saturday!
-Hill&Melissa-

Hillary,

Jake's house is on the opposite side of town to the north from Divi...about a 10 min drive...Although I could give you directions, I'm sure Jake will pop in and give better directions. I normally stay at Divi.

Thanks Gregg. Is the cam that shows the beach in the Richter's back yard? I'm asking this because I thought they may be on the water. It might be easier to find if we're riding bicycles along the shoreline.

Hillary,

You will not be able to ride your bikes on the waterfront at the back of Jake's house unless your bike has floats. The shore line is very rocky and private in Jake's neighborhood. The road is 100 yds+ away from the shore at this point.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Glen Reem (Extraordinary BonaireTalker - Post #1348) on Sunday, February 23, 2003 - 7:52 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

Hillary,

The main road is maybe 100 yds from the water. Jake's house is on the water, on a street that parallels the 'main road'. Going north from town, you pass the rotary near Sand Dollar, pass the power/water plant north of Habitat et al and then some houses. When a street (Jake's) comes in at an angle from behind you on the left, look left for the BT sign Linda painted on the wall next to the gate you see on the Streetcam. The Streetcam is just over their front door, beyond the gate.

The beachcams are on the other (back?) side of Jake's house, actually down near the 'beach'.

After all that, have a look at the Webcams FAQ at:
http://www.BonaireWebCams.com/FAQ.php#FAQ_StreetCamWhere

where it is explained far better. Linda's painting is on the wall to the right of the gate you see in the photo of the house.
