Cynde, I have a question. When shopping for the boys, we looked at some games, but is it a problem that they are in English? It was quite the dilemma...

Kelly, I hadn't thought about that. I know they speak Dutch, and Paiumamento (sp). Most of the people that work at the home also speak only Dutch or Paum...they boys don't speak English...hmmm...I guess I'll email Renee and ask what she has done in the past. I imagine folks from Holland have brought them games in Dutch...which begs another question...do they sell board games (in Dutch) at any of the stores on Bonaire?

Cynde -

Is this list current? We will be going to Bonaire for vacation, and would like to bring some things for the boys again. Approximately how many boys stay at the foundation?

Tim,

Bless you for thinking of the boys at Maria Hoppner House!!!! I'm not Cynde, and hope she will chime in, but this list is a wonderful start. It was great help to me as I started shopping for the boys when we returned from Bonaire this past April :-) I have been in contact with state side folks in the know as well as people here on BT about current needs. Cynde's provided list is a great template for you.

I do know, currently, there are 9 boys at the home ranging in age from 9 to 15. Husband and I are heading down in 18 days with two suitcases full of needed things; I'm SO EXCITED about it!!!!

I posted a thread in Commmunity Chat but will share my list with you here. It may help you but anything you can take the boys will be SO appreciated!

Here is what I have packed so far:
22 Toothbrushes
10 Large Crest toothpaste
9 22 oz shampoos
9 Individual stick deodorants
9 2 packs of Chapstick (Pirates of Caribbean)
9 boxes Band Aids (Pirates & Spiderman)
2 bottles Aspirin (200 count ea.)
9 tubes Hydrocortisone crème
1 bottle multi-vitamins (240 count)
1 large bag w/individual Sweet Tarts
9 sets miniature playing cards (Pirates of Caribbean)
9 individual packs gum :-)
9 individual bags of Jolly Rancher candy

24 white ankle/athletic socks
polo type shirts
12 pair boxers (4 packs of 3)
9 new twin sheet sets; themed (camo, cars/truck, sports balls, planets) and solid colors

1 Nerf football
1 plastic tennis racket w/balls
2 24” swim rings - Spiderman
1 20” inflatable ball - Spiderman
4 Reading books (20,000 leagues, 3 Musketeers, Swiss Family Robinson & Robin Hood ) 239 pgs. each

2 Kitchen towels
1 Kitchen pot holder mitten
2 containers Tang drink mix
2 containers Country Time Lemonade mix
Assorted Duncan Hines Brownie Mix and Cake Mixes
1 Inflatable fish for party decorating
1 Inflatable Seahorse for party decorating
2 Birthday banner sets (one banner and one banner w/ letters)
1 30x60 Door poster for party decorating
1 36x5 Birthday banner
1 35x11 Birthday banner w/ balloons

For Animal Shelter:

2 Dog leashes
1 canine/feline nail trimmer
2 Tennis ball rope toys
3 Braided rope chew toys
2 Cat crinkle tents/tunnels
1 bag assorted cat toys
1 comb & brush - cat
4 canine flea/tick topical tubes > 33 lbs
4 canine flea/tick topical tubes < 33 lbs

I took the "I am taking it ALL approach" when packing for the boys....LOL. We are allowed three checked bags and by golly I, myself, will have that many bags :-) THANKS again for thinking of & helping the boys anyway you can! If we could all just do a little each visit it would make a HUGE impact on BON!!! Be sure to take pictures if you are able to personally deliver your items to the boys!!!

If I am not mistaken, most of the boys are at their homes, etc. since it is school vacation. Of course, the facility is open and would love to have folks visit.

Michael,
Thanks for that point. Have spoken w/ Renee in the past week about maybe seeing our sponsor child as well as meeting Marlene to drop off our things. Renee mentioned you could vouch for Rob and I if we get hung up in BON customs....LOL :-)
We were supposed to bring you some things for the med students you see but never heard back from an email we sent you.

Kobi
