Hows the sailing this time of year? Will be in BON in February and wondering what kind of conditions to expect.Does the wind pick up in the afternoons, or does it start early? Been to Cabarete, DR, the last three years and never got on the water before 2:00 P.M.You could set your watch by it.

:-))))))))

It blows. Check out
http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/bonaire
and
http://www.breathebonaire.com/index.php?CURRENT_CAM=bonairecam4&SET_CAM=bonairecam4

The wind decreases as the sun rises and then stabilises back to whatever it was before dawn by 08:00am. It then wobbles at 10:00am almost without fail as the air heats up and then stabilises again by 11:00am. It generally decreases a few knots around mid-day and then picks up again around 4:00pm. Best sailing is 08:30 - 10:00 and 4:00 - 5:30 which leaves the rest for shopping and snorkelling......

The DR seems to have their best wind spring late summer whereas we have a longer windy season. I use www.windguru.cz for wind updates. It's pretty darn accurate.

Tks for info Trevor. I tried to find Bonaire on Windguru but it doesn't seem to be there. Windfinder now added to my ever increasing weather sites in favorites for windsurfing.

On Windguru select Netherlands Antilles as the country, then Bonaire, then Lac Bay or where ever.

I can't seem to find Bonaire listed on WindGuru?
Looking forward to Lac Bay, especially for my wife.Cabarete had tricky shore break and lots of chop, so most days she couldn't sail. She is determined to get in the straps and hooked in and blast across Lac Bay. Yeee Haw.....

The only thing weather forecasts get right is it is light during the day and dark at night.......

Windguru shows winds in Lac Bay for the next five days as East between 18-22 kts. How accurate are they? I find the only way to really know is to get on the water......we have a saying where I live...if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes..

East will be correct. The trend will be pretty accurate. Day 2 windier than Day 1 etc. The intra-day trend will be pretty good (the wind will decrease mid afternoon etc...). The absolute value may be +/- 2 kts.
