My family is traveling down to Bonaire next summer for some time. My then to be 13 year old son is interested in trying kite surfing and wind surfing.

I am completely ingnorant about these sports and was just wondering whats needed to get involved? Are there course to take and how does one progress? Are there any recomendations for schools on the island? what kind of equipment do you need? Can you show up with a swimsuit and thats it?

If anyone can shed some light, I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Cam

Welcome soon. Our Annual Pro Kids Event is 12-19 July this year. New are the slalom races too. When do you arrive? Both shops, Bonaire Windsurf Place and Jibe City have lessons. Yes, come with sunscreen lyra/rash guard and a swim suit. Bonaire is beginners paradise for windsurfing..The shop will set you up with the right gear.

We showed up in a swimsuit and a T-shirt.
We had lessons at Jibe city. Our kids (9,11,15,17)learned it rapidly.

It's great to learn windsurfing there. Water is warm and not deeper than your hips.

Drop him off at Atlantis at 10. Kiteboarding is great and generally easy to learn from the instructors. Im 39 and learned two years ago in Bonaire. If you can wakeboard or skate, its even easier. They do a good job but you can expect to pay $200.00-500.00 for one on one instruction for a few hours over a two day time frame. But its worth it and you learn it the right way.
