It's Cherry Blossom Day cherry

On March 27, 1912, 1st Lady Taft planted a cherry tree on the bank of the Tidal Basin. This was the beginning of Wahington D.C.'s famous Cherry Blossom Festival. 3,020 trees were planted over the next 7 years - grafted from trees on the bank of the Arakawa River in Adachi Ward (a suburb of Tokyo). This gift from Japan has come to symbolize the U.S. capital. Thousands of visitors travel there each spring to see them in bloom.

good morning It's so nice to see you!

sun Fweddie and Meryl! Hello, my buddies. Yep - we're looking at a glorious day here in New England - sunshine and mild temperatures. Do be sure to get outside for a little Vitamin D today.

cherry We have a great little town - all the town trees planted on the roadsides are either dbl-cherry, apple (red and white varieties} or pear. Our street is heavenly when they all bloom together.

Freddie - walk the dog on the beach this morning? dog

Meryl - how close is the house to completion? house

happy day marc

money Moi? I was just thinking that you were the one who mentioned pot plants. :-) Whatcha planting then? We have money plant popping up everywhere. I spread the seeds all over the yard every year when they ripen and they have never failed me yet - purple and white flowers on long stems early every spring.

raking I am going to do a little more raking out back today - want to get the patio cleared of seed chaff and spruce needles and leaves. Most of the ice is gone now - but I noticed yesterday that Connecticut River is still frozen across at Springfield and most of the Berkshires are still covered in ice and snow on the North-facing slopes. Winter ain't over til it's over!

dogs I figure I'll rake the rest of the backyard when I get a new filter for my gas mask and patch my hipboots. LOL

veggies OMG - who'd have thought that chatters eat their broccoli stems! What well-behaved folks we are - in theory! We're four for four, so far.

gif Cynde - alas, it only produces silver dollars - no mean green! It's beautiful, tho and care-free.

moneyplant This heirloom has been popular in winter arangements since colonial times. Money plant was introduced to England from Germany in the late 1500s and brought to America by the Puritans. Money plant is also called honesty, silver dollar, satinflower, penny flower, Judas' penny, and moonwart. Plant in mass in beds, borders or along the edge of shrub plantings where shining pods can catch the sunlight. Being a biennial, plant in spring and will flower/ produce silvery seed pods following year.

Money, money, money, mon-ey!

ok, rusty, i won't rush down to the garden shop and get some...they are beautiful! i don't eat broccli (sp) stems...and i don't eat brocolli (sp) unless it is smothered in butter or cheese...that goes for brussel sprouts and culoflower (sp) too! i'm too lazy and busy getting ready for work to look up the proper "spelling" of those iky veggies:-)

Good morning ladies - and Happy Birthday, Marc! kiss
Glad to hear you are all sittin' in the sun enjoying yourselves. Woke up to blizzard conditions this AM. Visibility: 10 feet. Winds: 40mph with high gusts. Roads: closed. However, in the incomprehensible wisdom of school district officials, SCHOOL'S OPEN!!! Took me 57 minutes to make my normal 18 minute commute. I arrived white-knuckled to find that only three students braved the elements to attend school. So, lesson plans have been thrown out, and we are going to spend the day concocting Chemistry experiments that are edible, like beef stew and soft pretzels. Life is what you make it, eh? I will be peeking in on the cams. I need some of that "Bonaire Gold" this morning.

Thanks everyone, especially Freddie for thinking of it :-)! 32 Now, but I actually feel younger than I did a year ago... Must be the blue sky and blue ocean, and the lack of stress :-). I have the full day to myself, so I'm just going to relax and enjoy life, the island and life on the island :-).

Rusty I didn't get round to doing the basket, I got rather distracted. I used to have the honesty/money plant but it's gone now. Must get some more. Wanna demolish whole garden and start again. Want a bigger pond too. Annie B.

gardenbird Annie - scarlet runner beans are lovely and you can easily save enough beans each year for planting again in the spring. I poke them in under the grape arbor, the rose trellis, and along the fence and front porch and let them climb. Hummers like the flowers.

horse Hi Bubbles! Bet your critters were glad to see you home at last.

Anyone experiencing slow going to get on the threads today. It seems to take forever.

Rusty, Good idea, I may try that amongst other things. My funny cabbages are about 18 inches tall now, wonder if they will survive if I move them. Annie B.

Just managed to snap this one.

Meryl. Glad the house construction is coming along nicely.

rusty, dont know if the animals were happier to see me or ME to see them...:-)...

my daughter had taken very good care of them all. -she had been home with her boys through all the storm. one good thing about having her live with us, when we are not home, she takes care of everyting. in return she has a home... works for all of us.

we are having a party tommorrow, quite afew families are coming to it and i promised horse back rides to all the kids (& big kids :-)) who want a ride, so long as the weather permits. i am sure i will be rather popular tommorrow-and busy.. also will be making a huge batch of homemade bread, buns, and carmel rolls for the party... hambugers on home made buns are very yummy.. barry made his terrific homemade beer.

hope all of you have a great weekend. bubbles
