Ok, i was really disgusted when as i searched for a gas station that had the "medium" grade (whatever that is called) for less than $2.00!! a gallon finally found a station, here is what it was...keep in mind that a WEEK AGO at the SAME station I paid $1.91 for the "medium" grade which is NOW $1.99!!!

regular: $1.92 per gallon
medium" $1.99 per gallon
supreme: $2.07 per gallon

what is everyone else paying...and i know it is expensive on bonaire, have your gas prices gone up as well?

i think i have observed that gas prices in bonaire are fairly stable - it could be they have been the same for the last three years (1.45/l)???

anyway, medium grade here in central ohio can easily be had for 179.9 :-(

1.97
2.87 89 octane marine gas

Highest price was 1.77 in the summer of 2000.

I see this question and rasie you one: What do you think a gallon of 86 octane should cost?

Here, I'll go first,

$3.50

Clint, I thought you were dead.

shouldn't this be in "Local Items"?

O.K.

If 1 US Gal = 3.7854 litres

AND

1 Can. $ = 0.660754 US $

AND

I'm paying $.80 Can. per litre of regular gas

I believe that comes out to $2.00 USD per US Gallon???

Now I need to rest my brain.

Bill

poor bill, it was early, and i figured that if i tried to convert a "gallon" into "litre" i would be in trouble!

bob, i remember gas being a lot more expensive than 1.45/litre on bonaire...jake?

dave, ok, I see your question and put for this:

86 octane should be at least as low as what clint is paying for 89 octane...$1.65...

what really ticks me off is that it went up almost 10 cents per gallon in LESS than a week...it is absolutely ridiculous, i drive a vw cabrio, and it cost over $21.00 to fill the tank...

bill, your brain all rested now? wonder what they are paying for a litre over the pond?

No, nearly, but not dead. Starting to look like Gollum, been down in the depths for to long. I have to steal Cynde's bungee once in a while and pop up to get a peek. The "thief thread" gets lonely, and I get to see what else is happening. I think that your 'evil twin' may be up to no good down in the depths. For the longest time I thought that it was you, but he didn't seem to know a lot about the malachite we happened upon in a section of pre-columbian metamorphic rock stata. If you come to visit we'll need a secret handshake or password, so that I will know that it is you.

Cynde, I have to agree with you, it is all crazy though. You know they are just hoarding it somewhere. A guy who used to transport gas around here (in the big trucks) told us they just shuffle the gas from tanks to tanks, no real shortage just price gouging.

No one should be paying much more than we are here in the Cornhusker state. Nebraska has one of the highest state gas taxes in the country at $.58 a gallon.
Crude prices are up under 10% but fuel and gas prices are up over 30%. Reason given 'reserves are down'. If there was this big oil shortage the crude prices would be a lot higher.
Exon and a couple other oil giants just published their profits for the last quarter and the highest quarterly profits in company history were recorded across the board. Someone is making money.

$4.58

Yes, $4.58 per US gallon. I knew ours was much more expensive than yours. I was always given to understand that your petrol/gas was subsidised by your government. Ours isn't.

I had to check it all to make sure our gallons, which I understand, but we don;t use anymore, were the same as your US gallons, and they're not.

1 US gallon = 0.83 Imperial gallons and also = 3.79 litres [which is how we now buy our petrol]

From school I remember that our [imperial] gallons = 8 pints [a pint = 20 fluid oz]. I imagine yours are less ? 6 pints? dunno :-)

Whatever way you do it, we are paying way more than any of you.

lodsmoney
It costs me about $55 to fill my tank. Lotta money

US prices for petrol have been way lower than most of the rest of the world for years now.

That being said, I freely admit that I drove 10 miles tonight to get regular at $1.69 instead of the $1.75 it was at the place near work. The three grades there were $1.75/$1.85/$1.95. Didn't notice what the other two grades were at the station I got the gas at, but I was very happy to save $0.06 per gallon (let's see, $0.06 times 14 gallons... that's $0.84... and at a tank of gas per week... that adds up over time!)

Faith

Yes, Faith...and how much further was the gas station you drove 10 miles to get to than one with gas costing $.06 more per gallon? See where this is going? If I had a tank of gas for everytime I drove thru a gallon of gas to save the cost of 1/2 gallon of gas, I'd have...a lot of gas and nowhere to put it, I guess...I'm gonna' forget about the price of gas and go divin'. Anyone know where to get free air?

Cynde, we have fed, state, and county and city taxes added onto the price. Last I remember it came to about $.45 per gallon, and of course our dear Gov. Panic Button wants to add more to it so he can build more light rail systems that lose money hand over fist.

Hey Jenni, I figured out the difference between Imperial to US gallon.
US pints have 16 oz.
UK pints have 20 oz.

So a US gallon is 64 oz. and an Imperial would be 80 oz.

It is not 9/10 of a gallon it is $1.69 and 9/10 of a cent per gallon or for the most part $1.70, although you would save $.01 for every 10 gal.
So Jenni you are paying .758# sterling / $1.21 US / 1.12 euro's per litre?

Thanks, Linda, and Hi

Clint I am paying [and going to the cheapest garage too!!!!] 75.7p per litre . So as 1 US gallon = 3.79 litres, that means I am paying in round figures £2.87 per US gallon. And £2.87 converts to $4.58 [in round figures, according to XE.com currency converter] mathteach

We don't use euros in the UK, Clint. Most [or the rest] of Europe does now though. I have lots of currency from eg Spain, France, Holland, Italy, Hungary, Greece etc which is now defunct!

It all depends on what you drive and how far. I drive just over 40 miles to work every day / 450 miles a week. Depending on what vehicle I drive I will burn anywhere from 18 to 65 gal a week or $30 to $110/week. With the cold weather it is usually running me around $38.

No, Cynde, I/we drive everywhere, and get taxis when I/we don't drive. And most families have 2 cars and often 3 or 4 when the kids are of the age to have cars. cars

Buses are not cheap, nor trains, nor trams, so I might as well have the convenience of my own car, and coming and going when I choose to.

yikes jenni! michael and i were talking about it last night, as i was telling him how expensive the gas is in your area...funny, we were wondering if most families had just one car, and took the train, bus or tube because the gas is so expensive...guess that answers that one!

i looked up what our bus fares are in Los Angeles county...

To whoever asked (Anthony?) -- the gas station that I drove 10 miles from work to get to is actually only about 200-300 yards off my trip home. I just usually stop at the one that's only 10 yards off my trip home because (a) it's -right- there, and (b) they pump the gas for me (mini-serve). On a rainy/snowy/frigid night, I'm willing to pay the extra $0.06 a gallon if it means that somebody else gets to stand out in the ick... :-)

I use www.xe.com and have it saved in my Favourites for easy use.

Cynde, I understand US$ faster than I understand Euros. We still use our own currency - pounds.

Faith - 'twas I...and $.06 for ANY serve sounds like a deal...ESPECIALLY when it's precipitating (like it seems to be doing pretty much constantly around here of late). Of course here, "full" service generally adds $.10/$.12 to the cost of a gallon and also generally means that they will forget to put your gas cap back on (I know every station around has a 55 gal drum in the back somewhere full to overflowing with gas caps). Bonaire's the only place I know where if someone DID inadvertently forget to replace your gas cap, and you returned a week or 2 later, they would probably remember your car, retrieve and replace the gas cap without delay and have you smiling and on your way in no time. (Well, mayne not exactly, but it sure seems that way when you're there!!)...and in the meantime, I think the price of gas has gone up an average of $.04/gal just since this thread was started. Is there a connection?

Just got gas today-- $1.69 for reg (87)
And had my oil tank filled at a $1.49 gallon (that hurts) Last fill 4 weeks ago was $1.19 a gallon. Thankfully it has warmed up here a bit in Massachusetts.

My fuel bill this week for 1200 miles was $140 luckily I have a deisel car if it was petrol it would have been over $220. So for a petrol car in the UK you pay over 15 cents per mile for fuel :-{

Been thinking about the price we pay for fuel compared to you lot over the big puddle, and what I realised is that we have smaller engine cars than you do, and in that way we get more miles per gallon than you do. It would also be a factor when buying a car, unless you are so rich you don;t care if you don;t get many miles per gallon. Kevin's new car tells him, as he driving along, how many miles per gallon he is using at that moment. He is most dischuffed 'cos he is getting less than he thought he would!!!!

89 octane $1.52
92 octane $1.64
A drop over the weekend and no clue why.

I'm seeing signs today for $1.81 unleaded super...up approximately six cents from late last week...here in Northern New Jersey. Carole

PS We will be approaching the season where the price will automatically rise as the temps rise, too. $2.00 per gallon will hit before then, I fear. But..we do have FULL SERVE here in NJ, too. cb
