Good morning Lyn.

It's...
Monarch Butterfly Day
No other butterflies migrate like the monarchs of North America. They can travel up to 2,000 miles as they fly to Mexico or California for the winter. Those hatched in the fall live 8-9 months to make this long trip both ways. As caterpillars, they only eat plants in the milkweed family, but the adult monarchs drink nectar from many different kinds of flowers. Nectar contains sugar, which serves as their main energy source. Plant some flowers at your house, and they might show up.

hi Good morning, buddies! Just popping in for a minute to say hello and I'm doing great - just tired. I miss you all and the cams something fierce. :) The stitches are out and two out of four are virtually healed - no scars!

relax

This recuperation is kind of fun - sitting out when it's nice and doing a lot of reading. Have gotten thru about 4200 pages of an epic fantasy my neighbor lent me - The Sword of Truth. Just one more book and I catch up with the series! Not often you have a chance to just keep turning pages.

Going to go have a light lunch with Dad today - he's driving. I'm not allowed to drive for another week. Going to try to sort thru my email before I go - have over 2000 messages in my inbox - 99% spam. Ugh!

I'll be back pretty soon - miss all the smiles!

Night ya'll. Just wanted to pop in here for a minute before I loose my mind. We're leaving for NJ @ 7am tomorrow, so of course everyone had work for me to do before I left. I'll try to pop in while I'm up there. I haven't even had time to look at the archives or check up on the chats. Maybe next week will be better.

Rusty, glad you were able to log on today. You'll be feeling better than new in no time:)

Hi everyone and good night to most!!! Thank Lyn for handling the sunsets and most of the day.. You are a wonderful friend I go diving with your husband and you take care of BT!! What a woman!!!

I crewed today to Capt. Ken on the JeanMarie. we did two dives on differednt wrecks today.. the first was on a fishing trawler named the Mandy Ray
MANDY RAY – 80/85 FEET

The Jean Marie worked in conjunction with the DEC and Cornell Cooperative Extension to make this one happen. She was sunk in October of 1998, a few miles off Shinnecock Inlet, to become part of our underwater habitat. Ironically, she now becomes home to some of the same species that she formerly harvested during her topside life. This wreck is 126 feet long, sitting upright and basically intact. She provides an awesome sight as you descend upon her. Part of her superstructure reaches up to about 45 feet below the surface. A fairly new wreck, she is nevertheless loaded with marine life, only promising to get better as time goes on.

I tied in and untied...
Gabe {lyn's husband] brought up a BIG Black fish and a Fluke.. Lots of fish around the wreck. Vis 15-20 water temp. 57 degrees...
the next wreck is the Panther..

PANTHER – 60 FEET

A 110-foot ocean-going tug with barges in tow. She went down in a severe storm at the turn of the century. She is loaded with anemone growth and provides a home for myriad forms of marine life. Fluke, tog, pollack, flounder, bergals, porgy, sea bass, striped bass and even cod have been seen and taken here in season. Along with these creatures, lobsters and other crustacean find their homes in and around where the hull meets the sand. All in all this is an excellent dive.I tied and untied.. uneventful!!!
temp 56 degrees viz 15-18
Gabe brought up at least 3 Sea bass {I think} Good size ones too..
A few divers brought up a couple of fish as well.. all keepers. One lobster came on board and had to be set free {too small}. A great day on the ocean waves 6 inches - 10 inches..MILK POND!!!!! No surge- slight current..
PGabe with fishPme looking terrible!!!Pdivers and crew

Do I see bucket divers? Aren't they great for keeping your dive gear in one piece? Makes it hard for ying-yangs to step on masks, etc.

We used to take our gear to Catalina on the cattle boats in the big heavy duty plastic trash cans until the company changed ownership, now it's soft bags or suitcases. YECH
