Hi everyone and good night to most!!! Thank Lyn for handling the sunsets and most of the day.. You are a wonderful friend I go diving with your husband and you take care of BT!! What a woman!!! I crewed today to Capt. Ken on the JeanMarie. we did two dives on differednt wrecks today.. the first was on a fishing trawler named the Mandy Ray MANDY RAY – 80/85 FEET The Jean Marie worked in conjunction with the DEC and Cornell Cooperative Extension to make this one happen. She was sunk in October of 1998, a few miles off Shinnecock Inlet, to become part of our underwater habitat. Ironically, she now becomes home to some of the same species that she formerly harvested during her topside life. This wreck is 126 feet long, sitting upright and basically intact. She provides an awesome sight as you descend upon her. Part of her superstructure reaches up to about 45 feet below the surface. A fairly new wreck, she is nevertheless loaded with marine life, only promising to get better as time goes on. I tied in and untied... Gabe {lyn's husband] brought up a BIG Black fish and a Fluke.. Lots of fish around the wreck. Vis 15-20 water temp. 57 degrees... the next wreck is the Panther.. PANTHER – 60 FEET A 110-foot ocean-going tug with barges in tow. She went down in a severe storm at the turn of the century. She is loaded with anemone growth and provides a home for myriad forms of marine life. Fluke, tog, pollack, flounder, bergals, porgy, sea bass, striped bass and even cod have been seen and taken here in season. Along with these creatures, lobsters and other crustacean find their homes in and around where the hull meets the sand. All in all this is an excellent dive.I tied and untied.. uneventful!!! temp 56 degrees viz 15-18 Gabe brought up at least 3 Sea bass {I think} Good size ones too.. A few divers brought up a couple of fish as well.. all keepers. One lobster came on board and had to be set free {too small}. A great day on the ocean waves 6 inches - 10 inches..MILK POND!!!!! No surge- slight current.. Gabe with fishme looking terrible!!!divers and crew |
