PegiSue, the most important thing to remember if a shark becomes agressive is: "Swim faster than your dive buddy."

COOL, Timmmy! It's a treat to see them.
I just hope the local fishermen don't find out about them. The black tips we saw at the same site last year were supposedly caught soon after word got out. I think they should be added to the "off limits" list. Apex predators are part of the whole balance in the sea. M2C

Smack - we saw local fishermen fishing the reefs on Klein everyday... very small boats, one guy and a hand line... I wonder if they could land one of these guys with such light line? Jake told me they target the small reef grouper.

Great shark photos Timmmmy. Bet you can't find anything like them in the Holston River, unless it was one of those big Flathead Catfish.

LOL - well TN Jim - I saw something that looks like a mix between a guitarfish and a basking shark at Loch Low-Minn in Athens, TN this weekend. So just how far away from the Holston are you??? I'm at the South Fork.

Mara, check out there site.

http://www.lochlow-minn.com/loch_low_minn.htm

Could be a paddlefish.

And why were you so close to me without letting me know? Loch is just down the road a bit from me and I've been meaning to get a dive or two in there but need an excuse:-)

Timmmy, you better believe if the fishermen find they can make some money(big fish) they'll bring out the heavy line and bait. Did the Park system ever put in moorings for them? Or they still anchoring using the traditional big rock? They have destroyed much of the reef in Bonaire. grrrrrrr

Hey Smack - it was a paddlefish or I should say THEY were paddlefish. It was really cool I just had no idea that they swam around with their mouths open. I actually thought about you and BH when I was driving back home. My hubby was supposed to go with me but he decided he just wanted to stay home so it was just me that went. It's $20 for the day and $5 to fill a tank or $15 to rent a tank. You probably have a cold water wetsuit but I didn't so I had to rent one of those. But that's a TOTALLY different story. The water temp in the first 30ft was about 76 or so - it was really pleasant. At 30 ft forget it! I'd say 64. I dipped down there when I needed to cool off but it was a VERY quick dip -otherwise it was 28ft for me.

You'll need to give me your number so I can call next time I am going down that way. I will tell you that it doesn't seem to be crowded when TN is playing football - especially an afternoon game last last weekends game with Florida. They do "close" for the season after this weekend I think or maybe the end of the month however they are having underwater pumpkin carving in October as well as Halloween diving. I think he said U/W pumpkin carving would be the 13th and the Halloween dives maybe the 27th and 28th.

Bon Bini Everyone!!!! Just a quick pop-in...my computer battery is about to diiiiieeee :-)
Here is Guy's picture of the sharks from the same dive
beautiful sharks

I don't know how I missed seeing them but I did, so yesterday on Patrick's last dive day, he and I did the boat trip out to Klein. He was determined to find more sharks for me and he did!! Let me tell you.... that man can SHOUT underwater and then MOVE!!!! It was like running a marathon trying to catch up to him chasing after that shark but I saw her... she was beautiful :-) :-) :-)
No pictures though but I'll not be needing any Red-Hot pokers for that... great memories. Pat & I had a great time just the two of us on the boat (Guy has come down with a chest cold :-()
He also found a school of squid (my first!)
I took this picture!!!!

I've been having a great time working on my diving skills and learning so much.

Favorite dive is hard to say but Salt Pier is not to be missed. Here is a picture I took of Pat going through one of the pilings....
I love my new camera!

Chest cold, poor Guy. I hope it was not SKUNKY AIR? I got that two years ago.

Sharks are great, they don't like people even our bubbles normally scare them off. My best encounter was with two dozen hammerhead sharks including one baby shark, I got to 5 metres away from them.

In my many years and many dives on Bonaire, I have seen only one shark. You few, you few, you lucky few. Great shots guys. Wow!!

Funny, I just watched a show last night narrated by Jean Cousteau in French Polynesia about the plight of sharks for sharkfin soup in the Orient for affluent young people to show their status. It is maddening to think how 75% of the shark population has been hunted in the last 20 years. The oceans are in huge trouble when you eliminate the top of the food chain.
