Well I took Monty to the vet's yesterday...and there he stays for a little while. The last time he had been there he weighed 16 pounds (and that wasn't all that far off from when he disappeared) and now he weighs 9 pounds. I know he needed to lose a little bit of weight but sheesh. The bad thing with him losing 9 pounds in the 35ish days is that he developed fatty liver disease. He also developed pancreantitis (sp) and a parasite I think it is called Coccidia. He was SEVERELY dehydrated as well. But luckily it can all be reversed. So he will stay at the vet's probably until Tuesday.

They called us today and said that he was doing very well which made me feel so much better. I would have hated it for him to have been gone so long, to make it home and then not live. That would break my heart.

Well the unofficial "consensus" is that he was probably picked up by someone and then he got away from there and found his way home. I really do wish he could tell his story.

Thank you all for the nice notes and the other incredible stories. Very encouraging indeed.

I'm so glad it is all reversible, Mara. Boy, will he be glad to get home on Tuesday. That is, indeed a shocking amount of weight to lose. Best wishes on getting him home soon!

Thanks - I can hardly wait. Maybe I should get the "Pet Psychic" to help and find out what happened with him.

Mara, I'm glad that Monty is in the safe hands of the vet now to get him back to healthy. Poor guy...good healing thoughts for him in the next few days.

Mara - happy to hear Monty will be ok. That certainly is a lot of weight to lose but knowing he can be fixed is a blessing.
Thanks for the update.

I knew he was skinny and scrawny when he got back but I was shocked - that is almost half his original weight. It will take me 12-14 months or so to achieve that;-)

Mara, I didn't want to make light of Monty's condition by mentioning it, but it did pass through my mind that I might sign up for the Monty diet if I could achieve those results!

Mara, so glad to hear that Monty is going to be ok. I hope his case of fatty liver is a mild one (I've seen the severe ones... scary!) Coccidia is easily dealt with, so no worries there. Give him gentle pats and hugs for me when he gets home. :-)

Hi Mara! Big hugs to Monty (and some tuna too! ). I'm glad he will be fine. It is amazing how cats hide their weight loss so well. When he is back home safe and sound, post a picture. I would love to see him. Scratches and catnip...

Such good news Mara :-)
I go without sleep whenever one of our boys doesn't come in at dusk - I'd be in sorry shape if it went longer than a night!!
Also, our youngest boy (another Little Guy :-)) had a bad case of coccidia when he came to us - it took a while to get his tummy in order but now he's the bigger of the two cats :-)
Big hugs to Monty ~ xxx
