Two big dogs running loose came into our yard last night after dark and tore the livin' daylights out of our little Rose. Tore her ear almost completely off and lots of bad punctures in her face and neck. She's still at the vet's getting sewed up and checked all over to make sure she doesn't have a neck or spine injury as she can't seem to hold her head up right and is all hunched up and stiff. We're hoping that that is just bruised muscles. We found the dogs and followed them for quite a while, but they were not going home - just wandering aimlessly. Unless we can find where they live, it will be impossible to make them pay. Would sure appreciate your prayers for her as I know most of you are animal lovers, and I do believe in the healing power of prayer. That and crying is all I have done for the past 18 hours. Thanks very much in advance. I will post again when I hear more late this afternoon.

Kirs, I'm so sorry. I'll keep positive thoughts going for Rosie, and a healthy recovery. It angers me that folks let their dogs run wild...and then have something like this happen when you have no control over it.

Oh no, Kris. So sorry that happened to your poor little Rosie. We had problems like that in our old neighborhood with people letting their dogs run wild, though it was against the law. Keep us up to date and I hope she's all better soon.

Awww Kris, I am so sorry this has happened to Rosie. My good friend has lost two precious cats this way in the last year, by 2 different neighborhood dogs running loose. You cannot be prepared for that shocking attack, and on your own property no less. And no one seems to do anything about it. Hang in there. You and Rosie are in my thoughts.

Thanks to all. We do appreciate all the good thoughts and support. She has to stay tonight and if all looks well, we might get to bring her home in the morning, but doc said it will be a while before she is back to "normal". They took her outside a couple of times and said she was scared to death, so we may be dealing with mental and emotionally trauma as well. I'm hoping that she mends enough by the end of the week that she will be excited to see her "big brother" (my son), and maybe able to forget or be distracted from being afraid. Thanks again. I'll let you know tomorrow.

Good grief, Kris, that is just terrible. Poor little thing. I bet it will help her to get back home and around the people she loves. I hope that happens tomorrow. If you feel like it, please keep is posted.

Thank you all again for your wonderful thoughts and wishes. We got her home this morning. She's still very shaky, hiding behind the recliner, looks a bit like Frankendog, doesn't want to eat or drink, and is afraid to go outside. I think with lots of love and gentle encouragement she will hopefully get over it. Thankfully she is still with us and I hope she is for several years to come. Thanks again.

So glad to hear she's home, Kris. And thank goodness it sounds like she will recover from this. Poor little thing. You (and she!) must have thought she was safe enough in her own yard, so it's extra awful when you were doing all the right things to keep her safe.

By Kris Fisher (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #242) on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 - 3:57 pm: |
No luck finding them yet, but I will be driving the neighborhood every day looking for signs of them. I did file a police report, and if I do find them they will be facing lots of fines and I'm going to sue them for almost $400 for the vet. Thanks again everyone.

Kris, Glad to hear about Rosie's update. Hope you find the dogs. Years ago we had a similar problem in our neighborhood. Two dalmations running loose got our cat. It unfortunatly was not a happy ending. It is such a shame that people don't take more responsibility for keeping their pets at home!
